Camels finish as runner-up at Georgetown tourney

All five CU golfers among top 10 individuals

WESTFIELD, N.J. – All five Campbell golfers placed among the top 10 individuals and the Camels finished as runner-up in the team standings after Tuesday's final round of the Georgetown Intercollegiate at Echo Lake Country Club.

Freshman Benjamin Killingstad (68-72-76—216) recorded his first collegiate top 10 finish with a fourth-place showing at 3-over par.  Sophomore Joachim Larsen Tegner tied for eighth at 6-over (68-73-78—219), while seniors Douglas Nordlof (71-73-76—220) and Henric Bjelke (67-76-77—220) along with sophomore Erik Johansson (74-76-70—220) tied for 10th.

Individual medalist William Huang of Princeton was the lone player in the 60-golfer field to finish in red numbers at 8-under 205 (65-70-70) on the par 71 Donald Ross design and Rees Jones update.

Princeton (280-291-288—589) claimed team honors, eight shots in front of Campbell (274-294-299—867).  Georgetown was third (292-290-300—882) in the 12-team field.  Campbell earned its second team runner-up showing in three tournaments this fall and finished ahead of three other CAA schools – William & Mary (4th), Delaware (T5th) and Towson (8th).

After posting his best collegiate score (3-under 68) in Monday's opening round, Killingstad ended the tournament with birdies on his last two holes to sew-up his first top five finish.  Bjelke also posted a collegiate low 67 in Monday's first round and claimed his third-consecutive top 10 to start the year.

Larsen Tegner's T8 outing matched his best finish of the season and was his third-straight tournament among the top 12 individuals.  Nordlof turned in his first top 10 showing in three seasons at Campbell.

Johansson signed for the low round of the day for the Camels with a scorecard that included two birdies, 15 pars and just one bogey.  The 2024 CAA rookie of the year logged his best individual finish of the season and third-straight top 20 effort.

As a team, the Camels finished second in the field in par-5 scoring (-13), birdies (41) and pars (159).  Campbell concludes its fall season Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 19-20) in the Furman Intercollegiate.

Founded in 1921 following the merger of the Cranford Golf Club and Westfield Golf Club, Echo Lake Country Club is home to a par-71 Donald Ross design that dates to 1913.  Robert White added six holes in 1919, and Willard Wilkinson added three more in 1928.  Rees Jones was hired as consulting architect in 2010 and unified the design by creating Ross-inspired bunkers with molded grass faces throughout the 18-hole layout.  Located about an hour's drive from New York City, Echo Lake hosted the 1994 USGA Junior Amateur and 2002 USGA Girls' Junior Amateur.
