LAST TIME OUT
Campbell QB Chad Mascoe, Jr. threw for 320 yards and four touchdowns, but No. 15 William & Mary outlasted the visiting Camels 35-28 at Zable Stadium. William & Mary scored touchdowns on its first two drives, and led 21-7 after JT Mayo's 11-yard TD catch from Darius Wilson with 4:22 to go in the second quarter. Campbell, however, answered on its next possession, marching 75 yards on 13 plays, ending in VJ Wilkins' second touchdown of the day to cut the Tribe lead to 21-14 at the half.

The Camels then took the second half kickoff and compiled another nine-play scoring drive, capped off by JJ Cowan's 19-yard catch on third and long, tying the game at 21-all.

Back-to-back TD's from the Tribe, including a nine-play, 98-yard drive, made it 35-21 with 7:39 to play.

Mascoe's touchdown pass to Sincere Brown brought the Camels back within one score with 1:56 remaining, but the ensuing on-side kick was recovered by the Tribe, who ran out the clock for the homecoming victory.

The teams combined for 887 yards, with William & Mary's 355 yards rushing, paced by Bronson Yoder's 131 yards on 24 carries and Malachi Imoh's 122 yards on 12 rushes, combined with CU's 320 through the air. Yoder and Imoh posted two of the Tribe's three rushing scores, with Wilson tacking on a one-yard TD.

LEADING THE CAMELS
Chad Mascoe, Jr. has thrown for 1,525 yards (217.9 per game) with 11 touchdowns, competing 67.6 percent of his attempts, while also rushing for a score. Sincere Brown owns 604 yards receiving with six TDs, while Mike Chandler II has rushed for a team-high 242 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Defensively, Jalen Brooks has notched a team-high 67 tackles with 4.5 stops for loss, an interception and two fumble rec50overies, while Jojo Pace has tallied  tackles with two interceptions.

THE MATCHUP: NORTH CAROLINA A&T
The Aggies are 1-6 on the season, including an 0-3 mark in CAA games, coming off a 59-17 loss against Hampton last week.

Justin Fromby leads A&T with 940 yards passing and six touchdowns, while Ger-Cari Caldwell owns 407 yards receiving and two scores. Mack David II tops the Aggies defensively with 51 tackles, including 3.5 stops for loss and a sack.

Saturday's game will be the first matchup between the Camels and Aggies in Buies Creek. The in-state foes have met twice, once as Big South Conference rivals and again as CAA opponents, both in Greensboro. Campbell took last season's meeting 28-14, closing out the 2023 campaign.

BROOKS EARNS NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOD
After collecting 19 tackles with 3.0 stops for loss at No. 15 William & Mary, Campbell linebacker Jalen Brooks has been named honorable mention Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8 college football games ending on Oct. 19.

Brooks totaled 19 tackles, one shy of the Campbell single-game record (Carlos Merritt, 20, vs. Jacksonville 2017), including 3.0 stops for loss with 1.0 sack at No. 15 William & Mary. The redshirt senior linebacker's 19 stops were a career-high for the North Carolina transfer, who tallied his second double digit tackle game of the season, and his second straight outing with a sack.

His 19 stops were the most since the 2023 season opener, matching teammate CJ Tillman's performance against then No. 4 William & Mary at Barker-Lane Stadium.

FORMER HEAD COACH DALE STEELE TO BE INDUCTED INTO CAMPBELL ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Former Fighting Camel head football coach Dale Steele will be one of five inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame during January's ceremonies.

Dale Steele was the architect of the rebirth of the Campbell football program.  Named head coach on June 15, 2006, of a program that had been dormant since 1950, Steele built the coaching staff and oversaw Campbell's first six recruiting classes on the NCAA Division I level.  Under Steele's guidance, the Camels produced 33 All-Pioneer Football League performers from 2008-12 and 192 PFL Academic Honor Roll members.  The team led the PFL – and ranked among the nation's top 20 programs – in rushing for three-straight years from 2009-11.  In 2011, Campbell won five-consecutive games and finished with the program's first overall (6-5) and conference (5-3) winning records.

The hall of fame class will also include Pat Brogden (women's tennis), Jerry Brooks (wrestling), John Crooks (golf) and Bev Shepard Marley (volleyball).

NEXT UP
The Camels head to nearby Elon for the first time for another CAA matchup (2:00 p.m. kickoff). Season, single game and mini-plan ticket options for the 2024 football season are available at GoCamels.com/Tickets and by phone through the CU Athletics Ticket Office, at 1-877-GO-HUMPS.
