Campbell heads to Chapel Hill for UNC Mizuno Invitational

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell softball will be traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C. this weekend to play in the UNC Mizuno Invitational. The Camels will play Rider University, Rutgers, Lafayette and North Carolina.

Friday, March 1 – Campbell vs. Rider, 11:30 AM
Saturday, March 2 – Campbell vs. Rutgers, 1:30 PM
Sunday, March 3 – Campbell vs. Lafayette, 11:30 AM
Sunday, March 3 – Campbell vs. North Carolina, 4:30 PM

SERIES HISTORY
Lafayette: Camels lead 2-0, last meeting - 2001.
Rutgers: Knights lead 3-2, last meeting - 2007. 
Rider: Camels lead 4-0 as of 2023.
North Carolina: Tarheels lead 43-9 as of 2023.

SCOUTING LAFAYETTE 
The Leopards (2-8) finished the 2023 season with a 8-36-1 overall record and a 4-14 conference record. Their losses so far this season have been to Mississippi Valley State, Tarleton State, Idaho State, Illinois Chicago and Florida State. Freshman Regan Dillon is currently leading in batting for the Leopards with a .440 AVG and 11 hits. Junior pitcher Morrigan Gardiner is leading the pitchers with a 4.52 ERA over 21.2 innings pitched, allowing 37 hits, 14 earned runs and 13 strikeouts. 

SCOUTING RUTGERS
The Knights (10-6) finished the 2023 season with a 32-25 overall record and a 9-14 conference record. Their losses so far this season have been to Houston, Duke, Florida International, LMU and BYU. Graduate student Katie Wingert is leading the Knights in batting with an average of .404, with 19 hits, eight home runs and 20 RBIs. Senior pitcher Morgan Smith is leading the pitchers with a 2.68 ERA over 44.1 innings pitched, allowing 37 hits, 17 earned runs and 35 strikeouts.

SCOUTING RIDER
The Broncs (3-2) finished the 2023 season with a 19-31 overall record and 9-11 conference record. Their losses so far this season have been to East Carolina and Towson. Junior pitcher Kathryn Schmierer is leading the pitchers with a 0.00 ERA over 9.2 innings pitched, allowing four hits, no earned runs and four strikeouts. Freshman Tristen Wren is leading in batting with a .417 AVG, with five hits and three RBIs. 

SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA
The Tarheels (13-2) finished the 2023 season with a 26-28 overall record and 13-10 conference record. Their losses this season have been to Kentucky and Lipscomb. Junior Alex Coleman is leading in batting with a .583 AVG, with 28 hits and 14 RBIs. Sophomore pitcher Kenna Raye Dark is leading the pitchers with a 1.31 ERA over 20.2 innings pitched, allowing 17 hits, three earned runs and 24 strikeouts. Four Tarheels earned All-ACC honors last season.
