Ezumah, Staves and Tuelle receive CAA postseason honors

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Christabel Ezumah was named to the All-CAA Third Team and All-Defensive Team, Shy Tuelle was named CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Brittany Staves received the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award to headline Campbell's CAA postseason honors.

Ezumah has led the Camels this season averaging 12.2 points on 56.1 percent shooting and a CAA-best 8.1 rebounds per game, all while playing 24.5 minutes per game. She's totaled seven double-doubles on the season, including a 16 points and career-high 21 rebound performance in Campbell's regular season finale at Hampton. Ezumah has scored in double-figures 18 times and scored 20 or more points four times this year.

A 6-2 senior forward out of Sugar Hill, Ga., Ezumah ranks second in the CAA with 48 blocks this season and 52nd nationally averaging 1.66 blocks per game. Ezumah's 127 career blocks rank second in program history.

"Christabel has developed into a force for our team on both ends of the floor," head coach Ronny Fisher said. "This development has resulted from her commitment to daily improvement and her determination to succeed. I am thrilled to see CB's hard work and performance recognized with these all-conference honors."

Tuelle has graduated from Campbell University three times receiving two bachelors degrees in sport management and accounting as well as her masters of business administration.

The program's all-time (297) and single-season record (76) holder for three-pointers made, currently ranks second in the CAA and 37th nationally with 76 threes while shooting 38.8 percent from behind the arc. Her 2.62 threes per game also ranks second in the CAA and 23rd nationally. Climbing up the Campbell record book, the Hampton, Tenn. native ranks 8th in program history with 1,403 points and second with 149 career appearances.

Tuelle becomes the fourth different Camel to earn conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in each of the past four seasons joining former teammates Lauren McNamara-Clement ('21), Taya Bolden ('22) and current teammate Staves ('23). Following this season Tuelle plans to play professionally overseas and become a CPA.

"Not only has Shy worked to set numerous program records on the court during her career, she has been equally devoted to achieving academic excellence as well," Fisher stated. "Her tremendous work ethic, attention to detail, and competitive drive are attributes that have led her to great success. I am so proud to see her efforts honored with this prestigious award."

The Dean Ehlers Leadership Award, is an award annually presented to the women's basketball student-athlete who "embodies the highest standards of leadership, integrity and sportsmanship in conjunction with her academic and athletic achievement".

Staves, who was named Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year last season, is averaging 8.0 points with nine double-digit scoring efforts this season along with 3.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists. A fifth-year forward, Staves ranks third in program history with 140 appearances, sixth with 130 threes and joined Campbell's 500 rebound club last Saturday at Hampton.

Staves will graduate from Campbell with her bachelors in kinesiology pre-physical therapy and a minor in business administration as well as her MBA. She plans to enroll in the DPT program at Elon University next January.

"It warms my heart to see Brittany Staves receive the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award, Fisher stated. "Brittany has embodied the "Sweat and Serve" motto of our program since stepping on campus five years ago. She has been an amazing servant-leader within our program and throughout the Campbell community as well. Her love for others is inspiring and she is such a deserving recipient of this recognition."
