WILMINGTON, N.C. –
Erik Johansson was tied for the individual lead and Campbell was third in the team standings when darkness Sunday evening halted the second round of the Seahawk Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Landfall.
Johansson (-2) and Auburn's Jackson Koivun were the only players in the 96-golfer field in red numbers when play ended around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The second round will be completed Monday morning followed immediately by the final round in the 54-hole event.
Johansson shot an opening-round 71 and was the lone player to break par in the morning in gusty conditions. He made three birdies, two bogeys and 13 pars on the 7030-yard Nicklaus design.
Fellow freshman
Joachim Larsen Tegner was T12 at 4-over, even on the round, while junior
Henric Bjelke was T35 (+7 overall). Senior
Garnet Manley III was T67 (+12) and sophomore
Tim Holmberg T77 (+14).
No. 2 Auburn was 11-over par and led the 16-team field by six shots over Stetson when play halted. Campbell, which entered the event ranked No. 157 in the nation, was 4-over on the round, plus-18 on the event and in third place, three shots in front of No. 39 VCU. The Camels led host UNCW, plus power-five members Virginia Tech, Penn State, Maryland and Minnesota with 20 holes remaining in the event.
Campbell will again be paired with Maryland when play re-starts Monday at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
