SNOW HILL, N.C. – With four golfers among the top 22 individuals, Campbell is second on the team leader board after Friday's opening round of the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate.
Henric Bjelke is tied for sixth at one-under par 71,
Erik Johansson and
Joachim Larsen Tegner T14 (72) and
Douglas Nordlof T22 (73) heading into Saturday's second round.
Tim Holmberg is T33 (74) and
Garnet Manley III T75 (79) in the 100-player field.
Co-host East Carolina leads the 15-team standings at 4-under (284), while Campbell is second at even-par 288. Harvard and Elon are tied for third at 3-over. The 54-hole event continues Saturday and concludes Sunday on the par-72 Cutter Creek layout.
Bjelke produced a par, or better, round for the fourth time in his last three events on a day when wind gusts registered as high as 32 miles per hour. The junior from Oslo, Norway made five birdies and led the field by playing the par-3 holes at 2-under.
As a team, the Camels led the field in par-5 scoring (-8) and tied with ECU for the most birdies on the day (20). Johansson made three birdies and 12 pars Friday and was T2 in par-5 scoring (-3). Larsen Tegner made the turn at 2-over but had four birdies over his last nine holes to finish at even par, while playing the par five holes -2.
Nordlof's round included five birdies. Holmberg was 4-over through nine holes, but birdied the 10th and 12th, then chipped in for eagle on the par-five 18th to finish at two-over.
The Camels will be paired with ECU and Elon in Saturday's second round and start from the 1st tee at 9:39 a.m. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
