Campbell defeats Monmouth 8-5

Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell beat Monmouth 8-5 in game one of the CAA weekend series.

Tristin Doster hit a RBI single in the third inning to give the Camels their first run of the game. Lindsay Lumsden then hit a triple that brought in Doster, and Mariana Rodriguez hit a single that brought in Lumsden. In the fifth inning Savannah White hit a RBI double that brought in Alyssa Henault. Lumsden hit a RBI single, then Madilyn Gillespie hit a RBI single, giving the Camels their sixth run of the game.

In the sixth inning Monmouth scored their first run, and Doster hit a RBI single giving the Camels another run. The Hawks battled in the seventh inning with Lexi Castaneda hitting an RBI double, and then three runs scoring on an error… giving Monmouth a total of five runs.

Isabella Smith (11-5) ended the game on a strikeout, and was credited with the win after pitching 7.0 innings and allowing five hits, two earned runs and seven strikeouts. Kayla Howald also came in and faced three batters in the seventh inning, allowing no earned runs.

Billie Kerwood (8-9) was charged with the loss after pitching 4.1 innings and allowing seven hits, three earned runs and five strikeouts.
