Erik Johansson was 2-over after the opening round of the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional Monday at Finley Golf Club.
A freshman from Hollviken, Sweden, Johansson chipped in for birdie from the green side bunker on his first hole and was 2-under through four before finishing the day T46th at 2-over on the par-70, 7084-yard Davis Love III redesign.
Ball State's Braxton Kuntz shot an 8-under 62 to claim the 18-hole lead. Host and fourth-ranked North Carolina stood atop the team standings at 9-under 271, two shots ahead of Georgia Tech and Ball State.
With inclement weather expected Tuesday and Wednesday, the 13 teams and 10 individual competitors started the second round Monday afternoon. The 54-hole event concludes Wednesday.
The top five teams and top individual not on those qualifying teams from each of the six regionals will advance to the NCAA Championship, May 24-29 at the Champions Course at the Omni LaCosta Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
Notes: Johansson's selection marks the seventh time in the last eight seasons Campbell will participate in NCAA men's postseason play. The Camels earned a place as a team in the 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021 NCAA regional fields.
