BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell outfielder Lawson Harrill has been named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced this afternoon.
A native of Shelby, N.C., Harrill is one of 25 semifinalists chosen for the award given to the top amateur baseball player in the nation. He is the only representative from the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).
Harrill had a career year in 2024, hitting 23 home runs with a .492 on-base percentage. The 23 home runs are second-most in a single season in program history. On May 7 against North Carolina, Harrill hit his 51st career home run to become the all-time leader in Campbell history. Â
A redshirt senior, Harrill led the Camels in nearly every major offensive statistical category, including batting average, hits, runs, doubles, home runs, RBI, total bases, and hit-by-pitch.
Harrill was on the preseason watchlist for the award, and he is the second Campbell player to be named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, joining RHP Thomas Harrington in 2022. He was also named a semifinalist for the 2024 Dick Howser Trophy.
Fan voting will again play a part in the Golden Spikes Award in 2024. Beginning today, fans can vote for their favorite players on GoldenSpikesAward.com. Finalists for the Golden Spikes Award will be revealed June 5, and the winner will be announced June 22.
