Three Camels earn CAA awards

BUIES CREEK - Three Camels earned CAA all-conference awards in the program's first year in the league. Jaidyn Ramsey was named Women's Track Athlete of the Year, Aaliyah Brown-Muhammad earned Women's Rookie of the Year, and C.J. McBride earned Men's Field Athlete of the Year.

Ramsey was tabbed the most outstanding women's track performer at the CAA Outdoor Championship meet after earning three gold medals and part of three meet records including the conference's all-time record in the 4x100 relay. She set the 200m mark at 23.40, and the 100m time of 11.26 was both a CAA meet and CU program record. Her opening leg of the 4x100 relay helped the Camels to a meet-record time of 44.42, breaking a record that had stood since 1999.

Her times qualified her for both the 100m and 200m at the NCAA East Prelims, where she finished 18th in the 100m (11.33) and 28th in the 200m (23.40). 

Aaliyah Brown-Muhammad earned Rookie of the Year after finishing fourth in the CAA 100 hurdles with a time of 13.66, and a qualifying time of 13.31 to advance to the NCAA East Prelims. The freshman was the only rookie in the CAA to qualify for the regionals. Brown-Muhammad was also part of the record-setting 4x100 squad at the CAA championships. 

C.J. McBride punched his ticket to NCAA Nationals and finished 10th in the high jump in Eugene, clearing 2.17m to garner second-team all-America honors. He was the first CAA athlete to qualify for nationals in the event since 2005 Prior to nationals, he finished first at the NCAA East Prelims by clearing the same mark. McBride took gold at the CAA Outdoor Championships clearing 2.19m, a meet record and the highest mark by any CAA student-athlete since 1994. 

McBride was named CAA Most Outstanding Field Performer at the CAA conference meet, with a pair of gold medals in the triple jump and high jump, and a second-place finish in the long jump. He tallied 28 points, the most by any student-athlete at the championship. 

McBride was also named CAA Field Athlete of the Year following the indoor season, sweeping this year's CAA awards.
