BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Four decades ago, Buies Creek was a hotbed for developing some of the nation's best multi-sport track athletes.
 
Leanne Plum arrived in Buies Creek in the summer of 1982 after earning 12 all-state honors and two Florida prep track and field state championships.
 
By the time she graduated four years later, Leanne had earned All-America honors three times.  Her school records in the heptathlon and javelin still stand 40 years later.
 
But Leanne didn't just compete on the track, she also played varsity tennis and ran cross country and was involved in a number of activities during her time in the Creek.
 
She went on to become one of the nation's best cyclists, taught high school literature and ran a business that ran guided fly fishing and hunting activities.
 
It's no surprise that in 2004, Leanne was inducted into the Campbell Athletics Hall of Fame.
