Camels head to Wolfpack Intercollegiate at 12 Oaks

Coming off runner-up finish, CU competes in familiar territory

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Coming off a runner-up finish in its season opener, Campbell continues its 2024-25 men's golf season Monday and Tuesday with the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, hosted by NC State at the Club at 12 Oaks in Holly Springs.

Head coach John Crooks and associate head coach Matt Moot will start the same lineup that finished second earlier this week in the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate.

Joachim Larsen Tegner and Henric Bjelke finished T8th, while Erik Johansson was T16th in Myrtle Beach.  Benjamin Killingstad produced a pair of under-par rounds and placed T27, while Douglas Nordlof matched his lowest score in competition for the Camels in the final round.  In addition, Camel newcomer Logan Graf will compete at 12 Oaks as an individual.

The Camels finished their first event of the 2024-25 season at 18-under par (280-285-281—846) but fell just three strokes shy of Santa Clara (279-284-280—843) on the final team leader board.  As a team, the Camels led the event in par-3 scoring (-2) and with 172 pars, while finishing tied for second on the par-5 layouts (-19).

Campbell is quite familiar with the Club at 12 Oaks layout, routinely playing practice rounds at the course, which is located just 25 miles north of campus.

The 12-team field includes ACC member NC State plus schools representing six different conferences.  Campbell is the lone CAA member in the field.  The 54-hole event begins with two rounds Monday in a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start and concludes Tuesday.  Live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.

The Course: The Club at 12 Oaks (Par 72, 7105 Yards)
The 12 Oaks course is a masterpiece of modern design. Created by the legendary Nicklaus Design Group, it weaves through nature, flowing past hardwoods, pines, wetlands, and streams. At its opening in 2008, Golf Digest counted 12 Oaks among the nation's Best New Courses, while The North Carolina Golf Panel magazine named it the Best New Course in the state.

The Coach: Now in his 35th year in charge of the Campbell men's golf program and 34th as head coach of the CU women, John Crooks has been named league coach of the year 23 times in his tenure.  His teams have combined to earn 36 NCAA post-season trips, including 15 in a row team and individual invitations.  His teams have won 161 tournaments and with 10 career tournament titles, Crooks trails only Dan Brooks of Duke (143) on the all-time coaching victories list among Division I women's coaches.  He has guided his teams to 27 league titles, including 19 on the women's side and eight in men's competition.
