Camels set for first trip to West Virginia

BUIES CREEK – Campbell goes on the road to its second straight "Power 4" opponent to begin the year with a trip to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers. Tip-off is set for 7pm in Morgantown and will be streamed on ESPN+.

Series History
The Camels and Mountaineers meet for the first time on the hardwood. Campbell is in search of its first win over a Big 12 opponent, currently 0-7 all-time against the league.
 
Scouting the Mountaineers
West Virginia opened the season with a 7-54 win over Mount St. Mary's Tuesday night. The Mountaineers forced Mount St. Mary's into 20 turnovers, but got beat 38-29 on the glass. Floyd Jasper led the way with 25 points opening night.
 
WVU is led by head coach Ross Hodge in his first year with the program after two seasons at North Texas. WVU was picked to finish 11th in the Big 12 preseason poll.
 
Last Time Out
Campbell dropped the opener 96-64 at No. 24 Wisconsin. The Camels trailed by just five points with less than 10 minutes to play before the Badgers pulled away late. DJ Smith led the Camels with 23 points in his first game for the Orange and Black. Chris Fields Jr. added 13 off the bench, with Dovydas Butka logging 10 points and 8 boards.

Thursday is a homecoming for Campbell assistant coach Joseph Yesufu who played for the Mountaineers just eight months ago. Morgantown was the final stop in Yesufu's impressive career. He
 
Looking Ahead
The Camels are set for their home opener Sunday against Western Michigan in the first game of a doubleheader with the women's team. The men tip off at 12:30 p.m. with the women to follow at 3 o'clock.
