Camels host Drexel and Stony Brook on Friday & Sunday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell hosts reigning CAA champions Drexel on Friday in its annual #Play4Kay game at 7 PM and welcome Stony Brook to Gore Arena on Sunday at 2 PM. Both games will be broadcast on FloCollege. Campbell is currently tied for third in the CAA standings with just North Carolina A&T and second-place Drexel ahead in the standings.

A PROGRAM BUILT ON DEFENSE

  • Campbell is the only program in the nation to be ranked in the top-25 in scoring defense in each of the past eight seasons
  • In the Ronny Fisher era (since 2016-17) Campbell has held 42 opponents to 40 points or less and 109 opponents to 50 points or less
  • This season Campbell ranks:
    • 61st nationally and 4th in the CAA in scoring defense (58.5 PPG allowed)
    • 91st nationally and 5th in the CAA in field goal percentage defense (38.9%)
      • 34th nationally and 7th in the CAA giving up just 14.0 fouls per game
  • Last season Campbell ranked:
    • 8th nationally and 1st in the CAA in scoring defense (55.1 PPG allowed)
    • 31st nationally in field goal percentage defense (37.1%)
    • 10th nationally in three-point percentage defense (26.5%)
    • 23rd nationally giving up only 13.8 fouls per game

LAST TIME OUT

  • Campbell picked up its fifth-straight win, knocking off Elon on the road 48-45
  • The Camels held Elon scoreless for the first 8:31 of the 4th quarter
  • Gianni Boone led the way for the Camels with 14 points while Courtney Dahlquist scored all 10 of her points in the second half

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

  • Reigning CAA champions Drexel enter 13-9 overall record and currently sit in second-place in the CAA standing with a 9-3 conference record
  • Drexel won the CAA Championship last season, earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament
  • The Dragons boast one of the top defenses in the country, ranking 32nd nationally in scoring defense (56.7 ppg allowed)
  • Senior guard Amaris Baker leads the CAA averaging 18.0 points per game
  • The Dragons are led by head coach Amy Mallon
  • Stony Brook, the reigning CAA regular season champions, heads into the weekend 11-13 overall and 6-7 in CAA play
  • The Seawolves defeated the Camels last month up on Long Island, 75-70. Since defeating the Camels, Stony Brook has lost four of its last five games
  • Stony Brook ranks 5th nationally in three-point percentage defense, limiting foes to 25.2 percent shooting behind the arc
  • Senior guard Zaida Gonzalez, who scored 22 against the Camels earlier this season, ranks 2nd in the CAA averaging 16.8 points
  • The Seawolves are led by first-year head coach Joy McCorvey

SERIES HISTORY

  • Campbell hosts Drexel for the first time in a series that is split 1-1 all-time
  • The Camels won the first-ever meeting between the programs back in 1992 - a 71-52 victory at a tournament hosted by Virginia Tech. Drexel held off the Camels 59-54 last season in the lone regular season matchup between the squads up in Philadelphia
  • CU is 1-3 all-time against Stony Brook 
  • Campbell was one of two CAA teams (Towson) to beat Stony Brook during last year's regular season - a 75-73 overtime victory in Buies Creek

UNDEFEATED AT HOME

  • Campbell is the only CAA school and are one of 27 teams in the nation still undefeated at home (10-0)
  • The Camels are outscoring teams by 23.6 points in home games, shooting 42.7 percent from the field while holding foes to 33.1 percent shooting
  • Opposing teams are also averaging 19.0 turnovers in Gore Arena
  • Campbell's 10-0 start at home matches the longest undefeated streak at home in the Ronny Fisher era along with the 2019-20 Big South regular season champion Camels who started 10-0  and finished 12-2 at home .   • Tucker dropped 20-plus points in back-to-back games, scoring 24 (the most by a Camel this season) against ETSU while scoring 20 at Miami
  • Dahlquist dropped 20+ points in consecutive games during CAA play, scoring a career-high 21 points against Stony Brook and pouring in 20 points behind a career-best 6 three-pointers
  • The team's leading scorer, Gianni Boone has three 20-point outings this season
  • Boone has scored 21 points against Western Carolina and Stony Brook and dropped 20 points and added 10 boards against UNCW. Boone has scored in double-figures 15 times overall
  • Boone and Dahlquist became the first CU duo to each have 20 or more points in a game since Shy Tuelle (21) and Caroline Bowns (20) accomplished the feat against Hampton on March 14, 2019
  • Alexander became the latest Camel to score 20 points in a game, notching a career-best 20 points in 24 minutes off the bench against Northeastern. A freshman, Alexander made 7-of-11 field goals and went 6-of-7 from the charity stripe

FRESHMEN CONTRIBUTIONS

  • Campbell boasts one of the best group of freshmen in the CAA this season
  • Olivia Tucker is one of the top scoring options for the Camels off the bench in CAA play, averaging 8.0 points per game on the season
  • Tucker was named CAA Player of the Week after scoring 20+ points in consecutive games against ETSU (24) and Miami (20)
  • Jasmine Felton is a three-time CAA Rookie of the Week, averaging 8.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals all while shooting a team-high 52.9percent from the field
  • Ciara Alexander ranks 3rd on the team averaging 8.8 points along with 4.6 boards - all while playing just 15.5 minutes off the bench
  • Alexander has scored in double-figures in seven of 12 CAA games and was named CAA Rookie of the Week once this season (Jan. 13)

CLUTCH BUCKETS FROM GEMMA

  • Gemma Nunez has provided clutch buckets in back-to-back wins on the road at North Carolina A&T and Elon
  • At NC A&T, Nunez hit a layup with 44 seconds remaining to put the Camels back in front for good. She assisted or scored on all but one field goal in the fourth quarter against the Aggies, finishing with her second-career double-double by posting career-highs with 16 points and 10 rebounds 
  • On the road at Elon, Nunez put the Camels ahead by four with 22 seconds remaining on a left-handed lay-in. She finished with eight points, six assists and tied her career-high with 10 boards for a second-straight outing

THAT'S OUR POINT GUARD

  • Gemma Nunez ranks 12th nationally and 1st in the CAA averaging 5.9 assists overall and 57th nationally/2nd in the CAA with a 2.09 assist/turnover ratio
  • Additionally, Nunez ranks 108th nationally/4th in the CAA averaging 2.1 steals per game
  • The Spaniard is currently one of 12 players in the country to average 5 or more points, assists and rebounds
  • Nunez has dished out 10+ assists four times this season
  • Nunez posted a career-high 12 assists, including nine in the first half, at Stony Brook
  • She followed that up by recording her first career double-double with 11 pts and 11 assists against Monmouth
  • Nunez also opened up CAA play dealing 9 assists at both UNCW and Charleston and dished out 9 assists against William & Mary
  • Nunez was named CAA Player of the Week (Feb. 9) after leading the Camels to wins over Northeastern and NC A&T

DAHLQUIST FROM DEEP

  • Senior forward Courtney Dahlquist ranks 2nd in the CAA and ranks 94th nationally (min. 2 att. per game) shooting 37.2 percent from three this season 
  • Her 48 threes this season also ranks 3rd in the CAA
  • Dahlquist scored a career-best 21 points in 27 minutes, connecting on 5-of-8 threes at Stony Brook
  • She followed up that game with another 20 point outing against Monmouth, making a career-high 6 three-pointers

FELTON ONE OF THE BEST FROM TWO

  • Jasmine Felton is shooting 65.2 percent (60-of-92) on two-point field goals this season
  • Excluding games against non-DI foes, Felton is shooting 69.1 percent on two-pointers which ranks 5th in the country

BOARD WORK FOR FULLER

  • Senior guard Audrey Fuller has set multiple career-highs in rebounding so far this season
  • The Brisbane, Australia native tied her career-high with 9 boards against Mount Olive in the season opener and set new career-bests with 10 rebounds against High Point and then 11 rebounds against ETSU
  • Fuller secured her first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 12 boards against Purdue Fort Wayne
  • Fuller leads the Camels averaging 5.6 boards per game

HOMEGROWN TALENT

  • Campbell enters the 2024-25 season as one of six D-I programs without a transfer (from any level) on its roster for a second-straight season (Air Force, Brown, Cornell, Princeton, South Dakota St.)

HEAD COACH RONNY FISHER

  • A three-time Big South Coach of the Year, Ronny Fisher enters his ninth season at the helm of Campbell women's basketball and 17th as a head coach overall
  • Over the previous eight seasons, Campbell has won 152 games for an average of 19 wins per season (152-90)
  • Fisher enters the 2024-25 season with 249 career wins (249-234), which ranks 2nd most amongst active CAA coaches trailing only Charleston's Robin Harmony with 317 wins (317-183)
  • Under Fisher, the Camels claimed the 2019-20 and 2021-22 Big South regular season titles and finished as Big South tournament runners-up in 2019, 2021 and 2022
  • Fisher has also led Campbell to its first-ever WNIT berth in 2021-22 along with two other postseason appearances in the WBI. He helped the Camels claim their first ever postseason win in the 2019 WBI
