JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Campbell opened play Monday in the Battle at Briar's Creek at the Golf Club at Briar's Creek.
One of nine top 100 ranked teams, No. 92 Campbell shot a 1-over 289 in Monday's opening round, the start of which was delayed three hours by fog. The second of three scheduled rounds will be completed Tuesday morning, followed in the third and final 18 in the 54-hole event.
No. 65 Clemson shot a 10-under 278 in the opening round, one stroke better than host and 35th-ranked Charleston (279). No. 51 NC State was third (280), followed by West Virginia (281), ETSU (283), Wake Forest (284) and Elon (284).
Michael Vick of NC State was the first-round leader at 5-under 67, one stroke in front of Garrett Risner of Elon, Kristian Bressum of ETSU and Rich Wills of Clemson.
Logan Graf led the Camels with an opening round 71, while
Henric Bjelke shot an even-par 72 on the Rees Jones design.
Erik Johansson and
Joachim Larsen Tegner recorded 73s, while
Benjamin Killingstad shot a 3-over 75.
