Bjelke, Camels still on top at CAA Championship

Seniors holds 7-shot edge, Camels 1-stroke ahead in team standings after 36 holes

SWAINTON, N.J. – Henric Bjelke stayed on top of the individual leader board and Campbell owned a one-shot lead in the team standings following Monday's second round of the Coastal Athletic Association men's golf championship at Union League National Golf Club.

One day after tying the course record and matching a school mark for lowest round in league tournament play, Bjelke (65-70—135) birdied his final two holes Monday to take a seven-stroke lead over Delaware's Casper Nerpin into Tuesday's final round.

After all five players birdied the par-five 18th Monday, the third-seeded and 88th-ranked Camels (292-291—583) hold a single stroke edge over Drexel (301-283—584), which finished 5-under as a team on the day.

Second seed Elon (295-291—586) is third and top-seeded Charleston (293-301—594) is fourth.  Delaware (292-309—601), which shared the 18-hole lead with Campbell, dropped to fifth after finishing the second round 21-over as a team.

The 54-hole stroke play event concludes on Tuesday to determine the CAA's automatic bid in the NCAA regional championships (May 12-14).  Live scoring is available at Scoreboard.clippd.com.

One of only four players in the 55-golfer field in red numbers, Bjelke posted the second-lowest 36-hole score in CU Division I (since 1985) conference play, surpassed only by current PGA Tour member Jesper Svensson's 133 (67-66) in the 2017 Big South Championship.  He leads the field in birdies (11) and par-4 scoring (-5), is tied for second on the par-5 holes (-6) and T4 with 23 pars.

A senior from Oslo, Norway, Bjelke has made only two bogeys through 36 holes.  His second bogey of the tournament came Monday on the 247-yard par-three 16th, but for the second-straight day, he closed with birdies on the par-four 17th and par-five 18th.

Campbell freshman Benjamin Killingstad is tied for seventh at two over par (72-74—146).  He is fifth in the field in par-4 scoring (+4) and sixth with eight birdies.  Sophomore Joachim Larsen Tegner (75-72—147) moved up seven places in the standings into 10th.  After making the turn at 4-over, he was 4-under over the last six holes, including birdies on 16, 17 and 18.

Erik Johansson moved up 12 spots into a tie for 26th (80-75—155), while Logan Graf stands 51st (82-84—166).

As a team, the Camels lead the field in par-3 (3.25), scoring, while standing second in birdies (37), and third on the par-5 holes (-11).

Campbell will be paired with Drexel and Elon for Tuesday's final round and start from the first tee at 8:50 a.m.
