Ranked as one of the top 50 courses in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Poplar Grove was the final course designed by Sam Snead along with Ed Carton and features bent grass tees, fairways and greens. Set in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the par-72 course extends to 7059 yards (but will play to par-70, 7212 yards for the regional) with fairways routed around a dammed section of Higginbotham Creek. Half a dozen holes are heavily influenced by the creek, with most of the other holes carved out of the dense woodland within the property. Poplar Grove has hosted multiple professional, NCAA Division I and amateur events.
