Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell won the first game of the CAA Softball Championship, topping Stony Brook 13-7.
The Camels are now 35-18 (19-8 CAA) for the year, and the Seawolves are now 25-24 (18-9 CAA).
The Seawolves scored one run in the first inning after Madelyn Stepski reached on a fielding error and Kyra McFarland scored. They scored four runs in the fourth inning after Alyssa Costello hit a four RBI home run. Stony Brook scored another run in the sixth inning after McFarland hit an RBI single through the right side.
The Camels started off hot in the first inning, scoring four runs with
Madison Ford hitting a two RBI ground-rule double and
Amber DeSena and
Livie Davis both hitting RBI singles. Campbell also scored four runs in the second inning.
Tyra Parker scored the first run of the inning after
Hannah Cornetto stole second and then advanced to third.
Charlie Montgomery and
Haley Krebs both hit RBI singles, and then
Livie Davis was hit by the pitch with bases loaded, bringing in Montgomery.
Montgomery hit an RBI sacrifice fly in the third inning that scored
Megan Leon, who was pinch running for Cornetto, who drew a walk. In the fourth inning, Ford drew an RBI walk that scored Krebs, and Montgomery hit another RBI single up the middle, scoring Parker. The Camels scored two runs in the fifth inning after
Tyra Parker grounded out and Davis scored, and then Cornetto hit an RBI double to right field, scoring Krebs.
Crimson Rice (10-7) was credited with the loss after pitching 1.2 innings and allowing three hits, three earned runs, three walks and one strikeout.
Hannah Leirerer (9-4) picked up the win after pitching 6.0 innings and allowing nine hits, five earned runs, four walks and one strikeout.
