Camels sign Muneer Newton

BUIES CREEK - Muneer Newton, a 6-5 forward, has signed with the Fighting Camels and head coach John Andrzejek. The Philadelphia native comes to The Creek following a season at Delaware State, another at Albany, and one season at William Penn. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

"Muneer is my type of guy and fits our style of play extremely well," head coach John Andrzejek said. "He is physical and tough and has a great attitude. He is willing to do whatever the team needs and excels at defending and rebounding.

"Muneer is a father of two, has his priorities in order, and brings a maturity level that I really value. We always talk about wanting guys that want to be at Campbell and Muneer really wants to be here! We are very excited to get him out here and get to work."

Newton started all 30 games last season for Delaware State, averaging 8.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and shot 58% from the floor. He scored in double figures 14 times, capping his season with a career-high 27 points against NC Central in the MEAC tournament. He also hauled in double-digit rebounds three times, turning two of those into double-double efforts. Newton led the team with 2.9 offensive rebounds per game and 0.8 blocks per game.

At Albany (2023-24), he appeared in all 32 games and averaged 4.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest. Despite coming off the bench, Newton ranked fifth in the America East conference for offensive rebounds with 65 on the year (2.0 per game). He scored in double figures six times for the Great Danes, including a season-high 20 at Bryant in the regular season finale. He tallied three double-doubles with a season-high 13 boards at Binghamton.
