BUIES CREEK – Campbell got back in the win column with a 3-1 win over Towson Friday night in Gore Arena. Campbell improves to 6-10, 2-3 with the win. Towson falls to 9-7, 3-4 with the loss.
Leah Freesemann led the way with 16 kills on .324 hitting.
Victoria Tupy joined her in double figures with 11 kills and 13 digs, one of five Camels with double-figure digs.
Both setters tallied double-doubles,
Hannah Pattie with 23 assists and 13 digs, and
Alexis Jodie with 18 and 11.
Aubree Fernandez collected 27 digs and handed out eight assists, both new season-highs for the rookie.
Campbell nabbed the first set 25-22 and never trailed in the frame. The Camels got out to a 6-1 lead, but were forced to cling to a one or two point lead for most of the set. The Tigers drew even just once at 20-20 before a 3-0 Camel run helped boost them to the early 1-0 advantage.
A late run by Campbell turned the second set around and helped Campbell take it 25-23. The Camels, trailing 20-18, put together a 5-0 run out of a timeout to retake the lead, and ultimately the set.
Towson kept the match alive with a 26-24 second set win. The set was tight the whole way, featuring to ties and two lead changes.
Leah Freesemann put away a team-best five kills in the set for Campbell.
Campbell closed the night out with its largest win of the night, a 25-16 decision. The set was tied at 14 when Campbell hit the gas and ripped off a 9-0 run to put plenty of distance between the sides and coast to the win.
Towson was led by Malinah-Purcell Telefoni and Addison Leber with 12 kills apiece.
The Camels and Tigers meet again tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Gore Arena. The match will be streamed on FloCollege.
