Softball ready to host Charleston for Alumni Day, first CAA home series of season

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell softball team returns to Amanda Littlejohn Stadium this weekend to host the College of Charleston Cougars in its first CAA home series of the season.

The Camels and Cougars will face off Friday at 5 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at noon.

The series is also Decades Weekend in the Creek, with each day featuring a different theme. Friday is 80s Night. Saturday is 90s Day and Alumni Day, with several former Camels expected to return to Buies Creek. Sunday is 2000s Day and also features Kids in the Creek Day, when children can run the bases and get autographs from the Campbell softball team, along with Camper Reunion Day.

The Camels and Cougars open the series Friday at 5 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. first pitch Saturday and a noon start Sunday. Live stats will be available for all three games. Friday and Sunday's games will be streamed on FloCollege.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

The College of Charleston enters the weekend with a 12-15 record and an undefeated 3-0 mark in CAA play after sweeping Monmouth in its opening conference series. The Cougars have yet to win a true road game this season, going 0-7.

Charleston is coming off two midweek home matchups, falling to App State on Tuesday before splitting a doubleheader Wednesday with USC Upstate.

In the circle, Charleston is led by sophomore Mackenzie Mathis, who was named to the 2026 Preseason All-CAA team. Mathis earned All-CAA second-team and All-Rookie honors in 2025 and has already been named CAA Pitcher of the Week once this season. She owns a 3.59 ERA with a team-leading 68.1 innings pitched across 15 appearances, along with a team-best .284 opponent batting average and 55 strikeouts.

Freshman outfielder Bronwyn Conroy has earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors twice this season. She leads the Cougars offensively with a .404 batting average, 24 runs scored and 35 hits.

SERIES HISTORY

Campbell leads the all-time series 27-15.

In 2025, the Cougars swept the Camels in Charleston, marking the only CAA series in which Campbell has been swept since joining the conference. Each of the three games was decided by one run.

Campbell's last wins in the series came in 2024, when the Camels swept Charleston in Buies Creek, including back-to-back 8-0 run-rule shutout victories to close the series. The last Charleston win in Buies Creek came March 4, 2014, when the Cougars defeated Campbell 4-2 at the Camel Stampede.

LAST TIME OUT

Radford used a sixth-inning surge to edge the Campbell softball team 3-2 Wednesday night at Radford Softball Stadium.

Campbell controlled much of the game early. After reaching on a Radford error, senior Charlie Montgomery advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Sophomore Hannah Cornetto then forced a throw from the Highlanders, allowing Montgomery to dash home for the game's first run. The Camels added another run in the third inning when sophomore Emma Slutzah was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing home one and extending the lead to 2-0.

Radford's defense kept Campbell off the scoreboard the rest of the way. In the bottom of the sixth, the Highlanders capitalized on a throwing error before a two-run home run gave Radford a late lead.

Junior Emily Allegood started in the circle for Campbell and was strong through the first five innings, allowing five hits and no runs while striking out two. Allegood finished the game allowing three runs, none earned, on seven hits across six innings. Senior Allyiah Swiney went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Freshman Kylie Specht recorded Campbell's only multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
