Campbell meets Elon for CAA three-game set

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell and Elon meet for the second time this season in a key CAA series with less than a month remaining in the regular season. The Camels swept the earlier meeting on the road, earning 3-1, 12-0 and 14-5 victories. The series also serves as a rematch of the 2025 CAA Championship, where Elon defeated Campbell in a three-game set.

The teams will play a three-game series this weekend, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.

Friday's game will be available to listen to on The Varsity Network and GoCamels.com. Sunday's game will be streamed on FloCollege, with live statistics available for all three games.

Fans attending Friday's game are encouraged to wear orange for an Orange Out. Ice cream will be available for purchase from Sisters II Ice-Cream Truck, and fans will receive a Campbell ice cream helmet cup with purchase. Sunday is Kids in the Creek Day, featuring postgame base running and autograph opportunities with the Campbell softball team.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Elon enters with a 13-27 overall record and a 7-8 mark in CAA play, having won series against UNCW, NC A&T and Hampton. The Phoenix are the reigning CAA champions and were picked to finish first in the CAA South in the preseason poll.

The Phoenix are led by head coach Kathy Bocock, who earned her 600th career win against UNCW on March 21. Bocock is the winningest coach in program history, and the victory marked her 365th in 15 seasons at Elon.

Chloe Hatzopoulos leads the team with 29 hits and 42 total bases, while Teagan Baulsir has a team-high 17 RBIs. Lani Wyrick ranks sixth in the CAA with 13 stolen bases and is a perfect 13-for-13 on the base paths. Elon placed three players on the 2026 Preseason All-CAA Team: Hatzopoulos, Greta Hessenthaler and Kayla Wilson.

In the circle, Anna Dew anchors the pitching staff. She leads the team in innings pitched (108.0), ERA (2.98), complete games (11) and strikeouts (109). Dew also leads the CAA in strikeouts, including 62 in conference play.

SERIES HISTORY

Campbell leads the all-time series 33-16-1. This weekend marks the second three-game set between the teams this season under the CAA's divisional format. The programs last met March 27-29 in Elon, where Campbell swept the series and outscored the Phoenix 29-6. It marked the first time Elon had been swept at home since 2018.

The teams also met in the 2025 CAA Championship, where Elon won the final two games to claim the title. Elon has won four of its last six games in Buies Creek, including a 2-1 series win last season and the Championship.

Since Campbell joined the CAA in 2024, the teams have met 12 times. Campbell holds a slight 7-5 edge, with an average margin of victory of 2.8 runs in those games prior to this season.

LAST TIME OUT

Campbell used late-game heroics to secure a 3-2 nonconference win over Queens on a walk-off double by junior Janel Day. The game was tied 1-1 until Queens hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth to take a 2-1 lead.

Trailing by one, the Camels entered the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore Hannah Cornetto led off with a single, and junior Livie Davis followed with her first double of the season to put two runners on base. With one out, Day entered as a pinch hitter and battled through a 10-pitch at-bat before driving a two-run double through the right side to seal the walk-off victory.
