BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell heads to the CAA men's golf championship this weekend and will compete against nine league members for the automatic berth in next month's NCAA regionals. The 54-hole event begins Sunday at the Dataw Island Club – Cotton Dike course in St. Helena Island, S.C.
Campbell has finished among the top three times – with a pair of first-place finishes – in its four previous tournaments. The Camels were co-champion at the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate Mar. 27-29, sharing the title with CAA rival Elon at 9-under par (276-297-282—855).
Joachim Larsen Tegner was the individual runner-up at 7-under,
Erik Johansson (-6) finished T3 and
Benjamin Killingstad (-1) was 11th at Cutter Creek.
The Camels also won the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate Mar. 9-10 at 10-under par (278-277-275—830), thanks in part to Killingstad's runner-up showing.
The CAA field includes three teams ranked among the nation's top 100 – UNCW (43), Charleston (47) and Elon (77). Campbell (104) is the fourth seed and will be paired with William & Mary (139) and Drexel (180) for Sunday's first round and start from the first tee at 10:30 a.m.
The CAA Championship continues Monday before Tuesday's final round. Live scoring will be available at
Scoreboard.clippd.com.
Since the start of the semester, head coach
Matt Moot's team has climbed 38 places in the national rankings. CU finished third at the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate in Feb. at LPGA International before its consecutive team titles.
Two players who helped the Camels finish eighth in the 2024 CAA tourney at Dataw Island will be in Moot's lineup.
Joachim Larsen Tegner finished eighth in the 2024 CAA event at 4-under par, before placing T11 at last year's championship which was held at Union League National in Swainton, N.J. Fellow junior
Erik Johansson was T10 (-2) in the '24 tournament at Dataw and T25 last spring at Union League National.
Johansson (71.4) and Larsen Tegner (72.0) rank 1-2 among Campbell players this season in stroke average.
Benjamin Killingstad, the 2025 CAA rookie of the year who finished T4 at Union League National, will also be in the lineup along with freshman William Sunborn and red-shirt junior
Logan Graf. Freshman
Adrian Bergqvist will also travel as an alternate/substitute.
Since joining the CAA in 2023-24, Campbell has finished fourth (2024) and third (2023) in the league championship.
Henric Bjelke won individual honors as a senior in last season's event.
The CAA champion will receive the league's automatic berth in the NCAA regionals, which will be held May 18-20.
