Camels 2nd after 36 holes of CAA Championship

ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – Three Campbell golfers stand among the top eight individuals, and the Camels are second on the team leader board after Monday's second round of the CAA men's championship at the Dataw Island Club – Cotton Dike course.
 
Joachim Larsen Tegner (-5) is tied for second, William Sundborn (-4) T4th and Erik Johansson (-3) T8th through 36 holes of the 3-day event.
 
Top-seeded and 43rd-ranked UNCW (276-282--558) is 18-under par, seven shots ahead of the fourth-seeded Camels (277-288—565, -11) and nine shots clear of third-seeded Elon (280-287—567, -9).  No. 47 Elon is tied for fourth with Towson at 7-under par.
 
Campbell, which entered the event ranked No. 104 in the nation, will be paired with UNCW and Elon for Tuesday's final round and start from the first tee at 9:00 a.m.  Live scoring is available at Scoreboard.clippd.com.
 
Only UNCW (-7) and Elon (-1) were under par as a team Monday, while Campbell and Charleston both were even on the par-72 Tom Fazio design.
 
James Rico of UNCW (66-70—136) holds a 3-stroke edge on Larsen Tegner (69-70—139) and Towson's Ariihau Faana (67-72—139) on the individual leader board.
 
Larsen Tegner's day included six birdies plus an eagle on the par-five 13th hole.  Sundborn (68-72—140) closed his day with nine-straight pars.  Johansson (67-74—141) had three birdies on the day, while Benjamin Killingstad (73-72—145) made four and is in 23rd place.  Logan Graf is T44 (81-75—156).
 
The CAA champion will receive the league's automatic berth in the NCAA regionals, which will be held May 18-20.

The Course: Dataw Island Club – Cotton Dike Course (Par 72, 6998 Yards)
Located near Beaufort, S.C., Dataw Island is home to two 18-hole golf courses: Tom Fazio's Cotton Dike course and Arthur Hills' Morgan River course. Both courses were recently renovated and designed to ensure a pleasurable round for golfers of all abilities. Golfers enjoy beautiful natural surroundings as they wind their way through the island and among tidal marshland, live oaks dating back hundreds of years and Civil War era ruins – starting and ending at the Southern-style Clubhouse.
