Top-Seeded Camels set for CAA Championship

BUIES CREEK — The top-seeded Fighting Camels begin its Coastal Athletic Association tournament run on Thursday against an opponent to be determined at Brooks Field in Wilmington. The Camels will face the lower seeded winner of Wednesday's contests. 

The Camels claimed the top seed after finishing 26-4 in league play and claiming the better RPI.

TOP-SEEDED CAMELS 
  • Campbell secured the No. 1 overall seed after going 26-4 in conference play and an RPI of 58. 
  • The Camels are 11-1 against teams in the tournament (UNCW, Charleston). The Camels completed a season sweep of Charleston and dropped just one contest to UNCW in Buies Creek earlier in the season. 
  • Campbell has not yet faced the three North Division teams in the tournament.
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
  • Campbell makes is second appearance in the CAA Championship since joining the league in 2023. 
  • The Camels made its first appearance last season going 1-2 in the tournament.
CAA PITCHER OF THE YEAR
  • David Rossow becomes the fifth Camel to win conference Pitcher of the Year after compiling a 9-1 record with a 2.64 ERA in 71.2 innings pitched on the season. 
  • Rossow was 8-0 in league play with a 2.06 ERA in 56.2 innings pitched. The right-hander led the league in ERA, opposing batting average (.201), strikeouts (93), wins, and earned runs allowed (21). 
  • Rossow collected a career high 13 strikeouts against NC A&T on March 14 before recorded double digit strikeouts in two more contests. 
  • Against UNCW on April 11, Rossow threw a career-long 8.0 innings allowing just one run on four hits and picked up 11 strikeouts. He was named CAA Pitcher of the Week following the performance. 
CAA COACH OF THE YEAR
  • Chris Marx led the Camels to a 39-15 overall record and historic 26-4 mark in the CAA. The 26 wins across league play marks the most wins for a program in CAA history.
  • Campbell was picked to finish third in the league with a first place vote but secured the number one seed in the conference tournament. The Camels claimed nine of its ten conference series while sweeping seven of those series. 
  • Marx becomes just the fifth head baseball coach to win its conference Coach of the Year award. 
ALL-CONFERENCE CAMELS SETTING THE STANDARD
  • Campbell set a CAA record for conference wins in a season with 26 after sweeping its series at UNCW last week. The 26 wins tops the previous mark of 25 set by Northeastern (25-2) last year and UNCW (25-4-1) in 2008. The Camels captured nine of their 10 CAA series, including seven three-game sweeps.
