Camels set for Georgia Tech Classic

ATLANTA, GA. - The Camels return to action this weekend for three matches in the Georgia Tech Classic. The Camels will face Xavier and Southern Indiana on Friday and the hosts Georgia Tech on Saturday. Saturday's contest against the Yellow Jackets will be streamed on ESPN+.

Last Time Out
Campbell went 1-1 during the opening weekend, downing TAMU-Corpus Christi in five sets and falling to Kansas State in four. Emma McCartney and Hailey Heytvelt were each named to the K-State Invitational All-Tournament Team. McCartney led the way with 33 total kills, while Heytvelt notched 19 kills on .405 hitting.

About The Field
Xavier enters with a 1-2 record after facing a stout early season schedule. The Musketeers fell to No. 4 Pitt and Ball State before toppling Notre Dame in four sets. Charlotte Moriarty leads the team with 43 kills (3.9 k/s), while four players are averaging 1.8 kills/set or better.

Xavier was picked to finish fourth in the Big East preseason poll, with three players named to the preseason all-Big East squad.

Southern Indiana opened the season at home, going 2-1 with wins over Murray State and Northern Illinois, and a loss to Eastern Michigan. Ashby Willis is off to a hot start for the Screaming Eagles, putting away 4.9 kills/set, good for top 10 in the country thus far.

USI was picked to finish third in the Ohio Valley conference and received three first-place votes.

Georgia Tech sits just outside the national Top-25 as the top vote earner to remain unranked. The Yellow Jackets swept their opening weekend with victories over Northern Iowa, Iowa State, and Loyola in Ames, Iowa, dropping only one set in the tournament. Laura Perugini Bieleski leads the way with 4.2 kills/set, while two other players have 11 blocks each.

GT was tabbed sixth in the ACC preseason poll.

Looking Ahead
Campbell returns to Buies Creek for the home opener, hosting Ball State, Stetson, and Furman next weekend. The official home opener is set for Friday, Sep. 11 at 6 pm against Ball State.
