CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Enzo Martinez set up goals in each half and
second-ranked North Carolina ended a three-match losing streak to
Campbell, Tuesday night with a 2-0 men's soccer victory at Fetzer
Field.
UNC (9-1-2) ended Campbell's (4-7-1) four-match unbeaten streak and
dealt the Camels their first loss in the month of October since
2007. Campbell entered the match unbeaten (15-0-2) in its last 17
contests during the month, including victories over Carolina in
both 2006 and 2008.
Carolina extended its unbeaten string to five (4-0-1), thanks to
goals from Billy Schuler and Kirk Urso. UNC claimed a 19-5 edge in
shots, 13-1 in shots on goal. Senior keeper Ted Awana collected a
career-high 11 saves for Campbell, which now stands 4-7 against

the ball, turned over his left shoulder, and ripped a right-footed
effort just under the bar for his fifth goal of the season.
Carolina doubled the advantage in the 72nd minute after Martinez
found Kirk Urso alone on the left side. Urso dribbled into the
area and his left-footed shot sailed into the lower right corner of
the net for his third strike of the year.
Awana kept the Camels in the game during the first 45 minutes. In
the second minute, Kirk Urso curled a free kick to the back post,
where Jordan Graye met it with a volley, but Awana dove for the
save.

rolled just wide of a charging Awana and past the right post. A
minute later, a failed Camel clearance fell to Schuler's feet in
the area, but the forward shot weakly into Awana.
Bill Dworsky smacked a left-footed shot at a sharp angle, but Awana
parried it over his bar for a 37th minute corner kick.
The Camels had several chances in the first half, starting with
Mitchell Cardenas' sixth minute free kick that was headed for the
right corner. Haggerty stretched for the save, and no Camel player
followed the rebound before the Tar Heels cleared.
In the 23rd minute, Brian Urioste was fouled on left flank, but
Cardenas' free kick headed over the line by Drew McKinney for a
corner kick.
With less than two minutes remaining in the half, Cardenas' corner
kick fell to Khalil Johnson on the left flank, but his hard shot
was blocked in front; then cleared.
CU's best chances of the final period came around the hour mark.
In the 60th minute, Daniel Tannous fouled Keegan Terry 28 yards
from the goal, but Cardenas' curling shot missed just high and wide
of the right junction.
Less than a minute later, Justin Smith played the ball down the
left flank to Vince Petrasso, who hit a first-time cross to Terry
at the top of the area. Terry controlled, and his right-footed
effort beat keeper Brooks Haggerty, but caromed off the cross
bar.
In the 74th minute, Ben Iiames split the UNC back four and Khalil
Johnson beat the UNC back line, but his left-footed shot from an
acute angle was well over the cross bar.

minute, but Jason Keever's in-swinging corner kick was punched away
by Haggerty.
