RALEIGH, N.C. - Ronnie Bouemboue scored two goals and set up
another as nationally-ranked North Carolina State defeated Campbell
5-1 Tuesday night at the Dail Soccer Complex.
The Wolfpack took a 1-0 lead at the break thanks to Bouemboue's
first goal of the season in the 15th minute. Just 3:52 into the
second half, Bouemboue set up Kris Byrd and the Wolfpack doubled
the margin.
Campbell pulled within 2-1 on freshman Jackson Ferrell's first
career strike that came off Vince Petrasso's long service into the
box in the 59th minute.
However, Bouemboue added his second strike of the evening in the
77th minute and Alan Sanchez scored again just 2:01 later. Michael
Smith tacked on a strike with just 22 seconds remaining in
regulation when he knocked in a rebound off Amar Brkic's shot.
Since the start of the 2005 campaign, Campbell has played 10
nationally-ranked foes and has won four of those contests.
The Wolfpack (4-1-0) was ranked 22nd in this week's Soccer America
poll and 23rd by the National Soccer Coaches Association of
America.
State finished with a 17-10 advantage in shots, 13-3 in shots on
goal. Camel keeper Ted Awana finished with eight saves, while
Christopher Widman had two stops in the Wolfpack nets.
Campbell (1-4-0) is off until Sept. 23 when the Camels host UNC
Greensboro in a 7:00 p.m. start.
