BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Campbell pounded out 10 runs off of 14 hits as
the Camels scored seven unanswered runs and pushed past LaSalle
10-4 in non-conference action from Taylor Field on Tuesday
night.
Campbell was led by
Alan
Denman and Ellis Lowe who had perfect
nights from the plate. Denman went 4-for-4 and registered an RBI
as well as a run scored and Lowe went 3-for-3 with two RBI and four
runs scored.
Campbell (7-4) also
received a solid pitching performance from Jeff Rydman. The
senior went seven innings while scattering ten hits, giving up
three earned runs. The seven innings pitched was a season high for
Rydman who doubled his previous mark of 3.2 innings. With the
decision Rydman moves to 1-0 on the season for the Fighting Camels
as he dropped his ERA from 8.59 to 6.28.
For LaSalle (1-6) it
was the bats of Brendan Norton and Marc Schoch who knocked multiple
hits for the Explorers. It was Kevin Christy who was charged with
the loss after lasting five innings while giving up five earned
runs off of eight hits. Christy with the loss now sits at 0-1 on
the young 2010 campaign.
The scoring started
in the first inning for both squads as LaSalle crossed the plate
first as it was a John Gyles RBI single down the third base line
that scored Brendan Norton from third.
The Camels responded
in the bottom half of the inning as Alex Aycoth sent a two RBI
double down the right field line that scored Denman and Lowe from
second and third.
The second inning was
silent for both teams but in the third LaSalle scored two more runs
as it was a DJ Johnson error that helped
the cause for the Explorers as a throw from the senior went
rogue on its way to Alan
Denman at first base. That error brought around Jeff Flax to
cross home plate. Kevin Jones later slapped a blooper to center
field that brought around Gyles for an unearned run.
Campbell again tied
the game in the bottom half of the inning as Aycoth registered his
third RBI of the game as he grounded into a fielder's choice but
that brought home Lowe from third base.
LaSalle scored their
final run of the contest as Flax sent a 1-2 pitch from Rydman high
into center field and while Bangi caught the ball, Brendan Norton
tagged up from third for the sacrifice flyout.
From this point on it
was all Campbell as the Camels scored two in the fifth, three in
the sixth and two in the eighth. Bangi started the scoring in the
fifth off with a single through the left side and that was followed
by a RBI double to left center that brought around Bangi to score.
Later it was Alan
Denman that sent a single down the right field line that
brought around Lowe.
In the sixth it was
Bangi again that started the inning off as Bangi singled just past
Jeff Flax at second base that scored Bryan Braswell. Later it
was Kevin Nelson that would
participate in a double steal with Bangi as Nelson crossed home
plate off of the steal. The final run was registered by Lowe as he
sent a grounder to the shortstop that scored Bangi from third.
In the eighth the
bases were loaded for Zach Johnson as the senior
was walked and brought home Kevin Nelson. The bases
remained loaded for Josh Holskey as he
registered an RBI as he was hit by an 1-0 offering from Jerry
Dougherty.
The Fighting Camels
will stay within the friendly confines of Taylor Field for another
contest with LaSalle as the two will face off again at 4:00 on
Wednesday afternoon. The game has been changed from what was
supposed to be a 6:00 p.m. first pitch.
