Baseball Hosts Belmont in A-Sun Series

BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Following a narrow defeat at NC State on Tuesday, Campbell will welcome Belmont to Taylor Field in an Atlantic Sun series. The Camels and the Bruins will kick off the set on Thursday at 6 p.m., and conclude with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday.

Campbell is 15-25 on the year after a 3-2 loss at NC State on Tuesday night, where the Wolfpack needed an RBI single in the ninth to top the Camels. The Camels are 2-16 in A-Sun games.

Jimmy Brenneman leads the Camels on the season with a .356 average, a .535 on-base percentage (leads A-Sun), 46 runs scored (second in A-Sun) and 25 stolen bases (leads A-Sun). Ellis Lowe is batting .347 on the year with a team-high 35 RBIs and 14 doubles, adding 32 runs scored. Josh Holskey is hitting .340 with 31 RBIs and four home runs, while Alan Denman fashions a .331 average at the plate with 32 RBIs and 33 runs scored.

Frank Zier carries a 4.08 ERA on the mound for the Camels, with a 1-3 record. Ryan Koopman is 3-6 on the year with a 5.08 ERA and 35 strikeouts in an A-Sun high 62 innings pitched. Matt Marksberry leads the CU staff with 47 punch outs in 41 2/3 innings out of the bullpen this season.

Lowe is already Campbell's all-time leader in hits, doubles, runs scored, total bases and at-bats. The senior now stands at 67 doubles, 185 runs, 421 total bases and 862 at-bats. The senior also ranks second in RBI (166), sixth in stolen bases (48) and sixth in games played (203). Lowe needs just two RBIs to break the all-time record, held by Jeff Huff (1998-01). He also ranks highly in several A-Sun categories, standing third in hits, fourth in doubles, 10th in at-bats, and 19th in batting average with a .365 career mark. The San Diego, Calif. native is also the NCAA's active leader in hits.

The 20-18 Bruins will come to Buies Creek after a 9-8 midweek loss at Tennessee Tech on Tuesday. Belmont carries a 9-9 record in A-Sun games, coming off a sweep of East Tennessee State in Nashville, Tenn. last weekend.

Nate Woods in the top Bruin threat at the plate, hitting .318 with six home runs, 33 RBIs and 27 runs scored. Dylan Craig is batting .333 with 24 RBIs, while Derek Hamblen tacks on a .312 average with six homers, 39 runs scored and 21 RBIs.

Matt Hamann paces the Bruins' pitching staff with a 2.60 ERA in 45 innings and a 4-1 record. Chase Brookshire has fanned 45 opponents in 59 2/3 innings for a 3-2 record and a 3.62 ERA.

The Camels will play only two games next week, heading to Longwood for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 28. A-Sun play will resume the following weekend, heading to Lipscomb for a three game series in Nashville, Tenn.
