Baseball Tops Lafayette 17-6

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell pounded out 17 runs on 20 hits to win its seventh-straight 17-6 over Lafayette Friday at Jim Perry Stadium.

Campbell improves to 8-1 on the season while Lafayette dips to 0-4 overall. Games two and three of the series will be played tomorrow in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

Five Camels posted multiple hits against the Leopards with Elijah Trail and David Olson each collecting three hits. Trail posted a 3-for-5 day with his third home run and a double, scoring two runs. Olson went 3-for-3 with four runs scored, adding an RBI.

Senior outfielder Ben McQuown notched a pair of hits with two RBI and two runs, notching his second homer of the year, stealing three bases in the game, his 17th of the season.

Jesse Simmons and Clayton Brown added two apiece, with Simmons collecting two RBI and a run scored. Nick Ray also scored three runs for the Camels. Ben Fish added a two-run home run for the Camels in the sixth, his first of the year.

Junior lefthander Hector Cedano picked up the win to move to 2-1, going 5.0 innings with five hits, three runs, all earned, four walks and three strikeouts.

Coley Thompkins allowed two runs in 2.0 innings with two strikeouts in relief, while Trevor Lane surrendered a run in his only inning of work. Michael Griffin pitched a one-hit ninth for Campbell.

Toby Schwartz scattered eight earned runs on 11 hits in five frames, adding a pair of walks and strikeouts. Ari Kaufman allowed nine runs, seven earned, on eight hits with two walks in 2.0 innings. Derek Gussaroff allowed a hit with a walk and a strikeout in an inning.

Scott Kelleher and Parker Hills posted two hits each for the Leopards.

After the weekend series, Campbell will travel to in-state foe North Carolina State Wednesday, March 6. Game time is set for noon.
