BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Radford swept a doubleheader at No. 27 Campbell, 5-2 and 3-2, clinching the Big South series win on the road at Jim Perry Stadium Saturday.
Radford improves to 14-11 on the season with the series win and 4-2 in conference play. Campbell falls to 23-5 overall and 6-3 in Big South games, dropping consecutive contests for the first time this season, and the first series loss for the Camels in 2013.
After five scoreless frames to start the first game, Radford pushed three across in the top of the sixth. Campbell answered in the bottom of the inning with runs on David Olson's RBI single and Nick Ray's sacrifice fly.
Radford added runs in the seventh and ninth on a RBI hit and sacrifice fly from Blake Sipe.
RU's Michael Boyle picked up the win, working five innings with two hits, two runs, three walks and five strikeouts, moving to 4-1 on the season. Jeff Maxwell and Daniel Bridgeman each allowed three hits in a combined four innings.
CU starter Hector Cedano took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts in 5 1/3, falling to 5-2. Logan Self allowed an unearned run on three hits in 2/3 of an inning pitched, while David Olson surrendered a run on one hit with two strikeouts and a walk in three frames.
The Camels left 10 on base in the game one loss, snapping an eight game winning streak.
In the nightcap, Zach Woolcock's two out solo home run to left put Radford on the board in the second, and Jeff Kemp's solo homer in the fifth put the Highlanders ahead 2-0.
Radford added another in the top of the seventh with Josh Gardiner scoring on a double steal, making it 3-1 Highlanders.
Michael Felton's sacrifice flies in the fifth and seventh plated runs for the Camels.
Ryan Meisinger earned the win, pitching 2 2/3 in relief with four hits and two walks, moving to 1-0 this season. Jeff Maxwell allowed a run on two hits in 1 1/3 innings of work, while Oliver Powers and James Woods each pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout.
Michael Costello picked up his fifth save with 2 2/3 innings of shutout ball, allowing a hit with a strikeout and two walks. Nygeal Andrews allowed a run on two hits in 1/3 of an inning.
Campbell starter Matt Marksberry (3-2) took the game two loss, allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks in 6 1/3. Ryan Thompson pitched 2 2/3 in relief, allowing a hit with two strikeouts.
Clayton Brown went 3-for-4 with two runs in game two, while Michael Felton and Ben McQuown registered two hits apiece.
Jeff Kemp paced Radford with two hits.
The Camels will take on North Carolina A&T (April 2, 6:00 p.m., Greensboro, N.C.) and Old Dominion (April 3, 6:00 p.m., Buies Creek, N.C.) in the midweek following the Radford series. Campbell returns to the road next weekend at Presbyterian, April 5-7.
