No. 29 Camels One-Hit Eagles 10-0

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Matt Marksberry struck out a career-best 13 for No. 29 Campbell in a combined one-hit shutout of North Carolina Central Tuesday night at Jim Perry Stadium.

Campbell improves to 36-8 overall with its fifth win in a row, while NCCU dips to 23-22 on the year.

Marksberry allowed just one hit in seven shutout innings, that coming with two away in the fifth after the redshirt junior fanned the Eagles' first two batters of the frame. He faced the minimum through 3 2/3, when an error extended the inning, and walked five in the game.

His 13 strikeouts were one shy of the school record.

Ryan Koopman and Trevor Lane did not allow a baserunner in the eighth or ninth, striking out one and two, respectively.

The Camels manufactured a run in the first as Ben McQuown reached on a walk and stole his 39th base of the season. He scored on a David Olson RBI single, giving the Camels a 1-0 lead. McQuown ended the night with three stolen bases, pushing his season total to 41 and marking the sixth time this season the senior has swiped three bags in a game.

Campbell also scored three runs in the third, fifth and sixth, with Blake Boyce posting a two-run single in the bottom of the third, and Ben McQuown notching his second home run of the year, a two-run shot, in the sixth.

Boyce was 1-for-2 with three RBI in the game, adding a sacrifice fly fifth, while Graham was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI. Michael Felton recorded a 2-for-3 night with two RBI and two runs scored, while Olson was 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI.

Elijah Trail also gathered a two hit night, driving in one and scoring a run while notching his 12th double of the year. Will Albertson added two hits while McQuown scored twice for the Camels in the win.

Jordan Quinn took the loss for NCCU, falling to 5-3 on the season after allowing seven runs, five earned, on eight hits in 4 1/3 with three walks. Sam Fulmer allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits in 1 2/3. Christian Neal struck out two and walked one with a hit in two innings.

Campbell will host UNC Greensboro tomorrow night at 6 p.m. After breaking for exams, the Camels will return to the diamond on May 3, beginning a three game series at High Point. Campbell returns home on May 10 for a three game set with Liberty.
