Trail's Blast Lifts Camels to Sweep at PC

CLINTON, S.C. – Elijah Trail's two-run homer in the top of the ninth powered visiting Campbell past Presbyterian 3-1 Sunday, leading the Camels to the Big South series sweep.

Campbell improves to 28-5 on the year with its fifth-straight win, and 9-3 in Big South play. PC fell to 18-15 overall and 5-4 in league games with the loss. The Camels also claimed games one and two of the series 7-1 (11 innings) and 14-3 on Friday and Saturday.

The Camels entered the ninth tied at 1-apiece with the Blue Hose. After Michael Felton drew a walk with two out, Trail's team-high sixth homer of the year lifted the Camels to the win.

David Olson, who also went 3-for-5 at the plate in the win, earned the win on the mound, moving to 2-0 on the year after pitching an inning in relief, allowing one hit. Olson hit .615 for the series, posting eight hits, including two home runs, adding five runs scored.

CU starter Heath Bowers, who saw his streak without an earned run came to an end at 24 innings, pitched seven innings with a run on six hits, five strikeouts and two walks.

Ryan Thompson earned his sixth save of the season, pitching a scoreless ninth, allowing a hit.

Campbell scored the game's first run in the top of the fifth when Brent Graham's leadoff single and a PC error put runners on first and third before Trail's sacrifice fly plated one.

A leadoff hit from Cam McRae sparked the Blue Hose in the sixth, scoring on a Robby Swab base hit to right to tie the game at 1-all.

Campbell senior outfielder Ben McQuown tied the school single season stolen bases record with his 35th in the top of the seventh, also picking up a pair of hits on the afternoon. McQuown ties Brandon Scott's 2008 mark.

Graham and Nick Ray also posted a pair of hits for the Camels.

PC starter Bud Jeter was charged with the loss, falling to 4-2 on the season after allowing two runs, one earned, on 12 hits with seven strikeouts and a walk. Tim Corbin surrendered a run on two hits, including Trail's homer in the ninth.

Robby Swab led PC with three hits, while Cam McRae registered two base hits.

The Camels return to Jim Perry Stadium next week, hosting five games in Buies Creek. The week begins with North Carolina A&T on Tuesday, followed by Savannah State on Wednesday. Campbell will host new Big South rival Longwood over the weekend.
