CONWAY, S.C. – Seth Lancaster scored the go-ahead run on a Campbell error in the bottom of the ninth, lifting No. Coastal Carolina over the Camels 6-5 Friday at Springs Brooks Stadium.
Coastal (39-15, 20-3 Big South), which took game one of the set 9-1 Thursday, clinched the Big South series over the Camels (26-26, 13-10 Big South).
Lancaster led off the bottom of the ninth in a tie game with a double off the wall in right-center. He moved to third on a Matt Beaird sacrifice bunt, but a Campbell miscue on the play allowed Lancaster to come home, scoring the winning run.
Mike Morrison (6-1) picked up the win, walking one in an inning or work after entering the game with one on and none out in the ninth.
CCU starter Austin Kitchen went two innings, allowing four runs on five hits with two walks. Bobby Holmes pitched six innings in relief, allowing a run on five hits with five strikeouts.
Erik Dowse (2-2) took the loss for the Camels in relief, allowing an unearned run on a hit with three strikeouts and a walk in 1 1/3 innings. Campbell starter Grant Yost worked 6 2/3 with five runs on eight hits, adding five strikeouts and two walks.
Campbell led 5-1 in the fourth after a leadoff home run for freshman catcher Justin Lamazares, his third of the season.
The Camels plated two apiece in their first two at-bats. Matt Parrish singled in a run in both innings. Campbell added a second tally in the first on a delayed steal, with Anthony Lopez scoring as Drew Butler took second, one of three stolen bases for Butler on the night.
Lopez drove in another run for Campbell in the second on a two out double to left-center, scoring Adam Wyse from second.
Coastal cut the Campbell lead to one with three in the bottom of the inning , including a two run Anthony Marks homer. Connor Owings tied it up at 5-5 for the Chanticleers an inning later with a leadoff solo shot, his 14th of the season.
An error and a walk put Camels on first and second with two out in the top of the ninth, but a deep fly ball for the final out of the frame ended the threat.
Marks went 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs for the Chanticleers. Lancaster added a 2-for-4 effort with two doubles, a RBI and two runs.
Lopez was 3-for-5 with a RBI and two runs for the Camels, while Parrish drove in two, going 2-for-4.
