Camels, Svensson, extend leads at OBX

CU leads by 23, Svensson by 8 heading into final round

POWELLS POINT, N.C. – Jesper Svensson matched his collegiate low and Campbell extended its lead in the team standings to 23 strokes after Monday's second round of the OBX Intercollegiate at Kilmarlic Golf Club.

At 13-under par, Svensson owns an eight-shot lead on the individual leader board, setting a school 36-hole record (65-64—129) in the process, and four Camels are among the top eight individuals.

Brett McLamb (70-68—138) is tied for third, Max Theodorakis (74-66—140) is seventh and Pontus Nyholm (70-71—141) eighth on the par-71, Kilmarlic layout.  Defending champion Ray Kraivixien (72-73—145) is tied for 20th.

The three-time defending OBX Intercollegiate champs stand 22-under par collectively (277-269—546) and recorded the third-lowest 36-hole team total in school history – six shots off the mark the team set in winning last year's event at Kilmarlic.  UNC Wilmington (287-282—569) is second, Drexel (293-284—577) third and host Old Dominion (302-281—583) is fourth heading into Tuesday's final round.

Campbell will be paired with UNCW and Drexel and start from the first tee at 9:30 a.m.  Live scoring is available at BirdieFire.com.

The Camels lead the event in birdies (42), par-3 (-2), par 4 (even) and par-5 (-15) scoring on the 6205-yard Kilmarlic layout.  Campbell's 115 pars are tied for the lead in the 18-team field after posting the second-lowest 18-hole score in school record books.

After an opening-round 65, Svensson birdied three of the first four holes Monday. His only bogey of the day came on the par-4 sixth. However, he birdied the eighth and made the turn at 3-under 32.  The 2017 Big South golfer of the year made four more birdies over his final six holes – including the par-five 16th and 18th – to push his lead to 8 shots over Drexel's Connor Schmidt (70-67—137).

McLamb opened with four birdies and a bogey on the front nine Monday; then made 9-straight pars to close his 3-under 68.  Theodorakis made 3-straight birdies to start the day before suffering his only bogey of the day on the par-4 fourth.  After making 5-straight pars to turn at 2-under 33, Theodorakis birdied the 10th, 16th and 18th holes to post his ninth round of par, or better, in 10 starts this fall.
