Campbell (5-7, 2-1 SoCon) rounded out a three match week with a split in SoCon action, starting with a 31-7 win at Gardner-Webb to open conference competition. Appalachian State held off the Camels in Buies Creek, 18-12, and Campbell responded with a 48-0 shutout at Davidson one day later.
CU erased a 12-3 deficit and cut the Mountaineers' lead to 15-12 with one bout remaining. At Davidson, CU collected its first shutout since topping VMI 42-0 in 2016-17's regular season finale, posting five pins and eight total bonus point victories. The 48-0 win marked Campbell's largest margin of victory since 2008-09 against Wagner.
Three Camels are off to 3-0 starts in SoCon action, including freshman
Korbin Meink, ranked No. 23 at 125 pounds. Meink owns a team-best 20 total wins with an 8-4 dual mark. Heavyweight
Jere Heino, ranked No. 29 in his weight class, has won 15 of his last 17 matches, including all three of his SoCon bouts. At 141 pounds,
Jonathan Ryan is also 3-0 in conference, going 14-12 overall.
The Citadel heads into Saturday's match at 1-7 overall and 0-3 in conference duals. The Bulldogs were edged 24-21 in their previous SoCon outing. Campbell topped The Citadel 31-12 last season.
Campbell will return to action in Edwardsville, Ill., taking on SIU-Edwardsville and VMI on February 11. The Camels will round out the regular season hosting Chattanooga on February 17.
The 2018 Southern Conference Championships will be held March 3 in Charleston, S.C.
