Last time out
Colin Gary's 50-yard field goal just cleared the cross bar as time expired to
lift Campbell to a 31-29 win over Davidson at Barker-Lane Stadium. Gary's school-record boot came after the Wildcats converted a two-point conversion to grab a 29-28 advantage with only 23 seconds to play.
Starting from their only 38, the Camels moved to the Davidson 33 on
Hajj-Malik Williams' 5-yard completion to
Caleb Snead, then scrambled for five yards, but a defensive holding call tacked on 10 more. Williams then ran for six more yards before stepping out of bounds at the 33 to set up Gary's winning kick.
Gary's field goal broke the previous school record 49-yarder hit by
Mitchell Brown against Butler in the 2016 season.
Gary's big kick named top FCS Play of the Week
Gary's kick, seen
thousands of times on social media, was chosen as the
No. 1 FCS Play of the Week, as chosen by the NCAA. The winning boot beat out top plays from Incarnate Word, Montana, Brown and Sam Houston State.
Colin Gary's 50 yard game-winner set a school record for longest made field goal, breaking
Mitchell Brown's former mark of 49 yards, set in a win over Butler in 2016. The redshirt senior's previous career long was 37 yards.
The win marked the first time Campbell has won a game as time expired in regulation in the program's modern history (since 2008). It was Campbell's sixth final possession win, including two overtime victories, and first since 2016. Of those six wins, three have come against Davidson.
