Camels travel to Winthrop Saturday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Two of the nation's top leaders in assists face off Saturday as Campbell travels to Winthrop for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.

The match can be streamed live on ESPN+ and can be followed along through live stats or on twitter -- @GoCamelsWSOC. 

Campbell forward Jessica Donald ranks 4th in the nation in total assists with seven and 7th in assists per game with a 0.78 mark while Winthrop's Keeley Leising ranks first in the nation in assist per game (1.00) and fourth in total assists with seven.

LAST TIME OUT: Carsyn Gold netted the lone goal of the match as High Point downed Campbell 1-0 Wednesday night at Vert Stadium.

Gold gathered the loose ball in the box off the cross and shot through traffic to net the only, and decisive goal of the contest in the 20th minute.

Campbell edged the Panthers in corner kicks five to two and the two squads both placed four shots on frame.

CAMELS TOP UNCA to open league play:  Elyssa Nowowieski and Jessica Donald both netted goals as Campbell topped UNC Asheville 2-0 to start Big South Conference play Saturday afternoon. 

Rookie Nowowieski scored her first career goal to open the scoring slate in the 31st minute. Alexa Genas fired a free kick from just outside the 18 yard box to force a diving save. Nowowieski gathered the loose ball and finished for the score.

Sophomore keeper Reaghan Duval picked up her third solo shutout of the year by posting a blank sheet which featured two saves across 90 minutes of action.

Sophomore Jessica Donald, who enter the match tied for the nation's lead in assists, scored her first goal of the season in the 67th minute. Donald Took the feed from Katie Lockwood on the right side and finished right in front of the net for the final score of the match.

BECKWITH NAMED DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: After helping Campbell to its fifth shutout of the season, Callie Beckwith was named the Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

The recognition marks the first weekly honor of the senior's career and marks a program record fifth straight week a Camel has claimed a weekly accolade this season. The seventh overall weekly honor serves as a new program record as well. Campbell tabbed six Big South weekly honors in both 2015 and 2017.

Beckwith helped Campbell claim its second consecutive shutout and its fifth overall on the season. In the 2-0 win over UNC Asheville, the Fulton, N.Y. native played the full 90 minutes and has now played at least the full 90 minutes in six of eight contests this season.

DONALD and Camels AMONG NATIONS LEADERS: Sophomore Jessica Donald's seven assists on the season ranks fourth in the nation among all Division I NCAA Soccer players while her 0.78 assist per game mark ranks seventh. The Tully, N.Y. native most recently dished out two assists against Wofford. Donald holds the top mark in assists in the league.

As a squad Campbell ranks 19th in the nation in total assists (19) and 25th in assists per game (2.33).

GENAS TWO GOALS SHY OF BIG SOUTH TOP 10: Senior forward Alexa Genas is just two goals shy of cracking the Big South top 10 list for career goals. Genas currently has 36 goals scored and 10 shy of tying former Campbell forward Ashley Clark for the second most goals scored in program history. Genas currently ranks second in the Big South in shots // shots per game (28 // 3.11) and third in points // points per game (12 // 1.33), and goals (4).

LEAGUE LEADERS:  As a squad, Campbell leads the Big South in goals (19), goals per game (2.11), points (59), points per game (6.56), assists (21), assists per game (2.33).

LOCKWOOD AMONG LEADERS: Senior Katie Lockwood leads the league in and goals // goals per game (6 // 0.67) and ranks second in points with 14 and holds the top spot in points per game (1.56).

CAMELS vs EAGLES: Saturday's match marks the 12th all-time meeting between the two teams with Campbell holding a 6-4-1 advantage including last year's 2-1 win in Buies Creek. Genas and Donald both scored in the win.
