BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After another 2-0 week, including a win over a ranked opponent, Campbell's
Austin Murphy has been named Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week.
Murphy picked up a crucial 5-4 decision over 14th-ranked Thomas Flitz from Appalachian State at 174 pounds, with the upset sparking the Camels to a
win over the visiting Mountaineers. CU trailed 17-3 heading into Murphy's matchup with Flitz before winning the final four weight classes, taking its third straight match against App State, 21-17.
The junior also registered a pin in the day's finale against Gardner-Webb, helping the Camels top the Runnin' Bulldogs 38-6 for their 12
th-straight SoCon dual win. Murphy is now 6-0 on the season, including a 5-0 dual mark.
Murphy is the third Camel to be named SoCon Wrestler of the Week so far this season, joining
Benjamin Barton (
1/6) and
Caleb Hopkins (
1/20).
The Camels will be back in action on Saturday, January 30, traveling to Charleston, S.C. for matchups with The Citadel and Davidson.
