Box Score ASHEVILLE, NC – Double digit kills from
Sarah Colla and
Chloe Cook led the Camels to a straight-set victory over UNC Asheville (0-1) Friday afternoon. Campbell improves to 3-0 on the year, and has won each of its first three matches in straight sets for the first time in program history.
Colla recorded a match-high 14 kills on .308 hitting while Cook added 13 kills on .346 to pace the Camel offense.
Campbell showed during the first set why they entered the match as the nation's top team in kills/set. Campbell put away 18 kills, led by Cook with five and Colla with four to help take the first set 25-21. Despite all of the kills, it wasn't an easy set for the Camels. Trailing 13-16, they needed an 8-1 run to put them up 21-17, a lead they would not surrender.
The Camel offense stayed hot during the second set, putting away 15 more kills on .306 hitting en route to a 25-18 set win. Trailing 10-5, Campbell pieced together a 7-2 run to help even the score. A few points later, back to back kills by
Melody Paige and Cook sparked another 7-1 run that closed out the set.
Up 2-0, Campbell wasted no time putting the match away. The third set was close early, before a 5-0 Camel run gave them some breathing room up 15-11. Campbell did not let Asheville get any closer and went on to close it out 25-19.
The defense was led by
Madee Miner's 11 digs. She also dished out 11 assists to record her second double-double of the year. Colla also got it done on defense, pitching in a team-high three block assists. Overall, the defense was able to hold the Asheville attack to hitting .086.
Campbell and Asheville square off again tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. The match will be available on ESPN+.
