ST. LOUIS, MO. – Five Campbell wrestlers advanced to day two of the NCAA Championships after opening competition on Thursday at the Enterprise Center.

Josh Heil at 149 pounds, No. 11
Austin Murphy at 174 and No. 14
Caleb Hopkins at 184 all won their opening round matchups, while No. 22
Benjamin Barton at 157 and No. 22
Chris Kober at 197 both rallied for victories in Thursday's evening session to stay alive in St. Louis.
Seeded 20
th at 149 pounds, Heil defeated No. 13 Mitch Moore from Oklahoma, 2-1 in round one, working a second period escape and adding riding time for the win. In the nightcap, the senior led two-time Oklahoma State All-American, fourth-ranked Boo Lewallen, 6-5, in overtime, but a Lewallen takedown was allowed as time expired. Heil will take on Hofstra's Greg Gaxiola on Friday.
Murphy also worked a one-point victory in Thursday's opening round, taking down No. 22 Mason Kauffman from Northern Illinois 3-2, before taking a 6-4 overtime loss to No. 6 Andrew McNally of Kent State, his first of the season. Murphy will see Edinboro's Jacob Oliver on Friday.
Hopkins became Campbell's third round one winner, defeating No. 19 Zach Braunagel from Illinois 7-6. Hopkins led 4-1 after the first period before Braunagel tied it up heading to the third, where Hopkins tallied an escape, and held on for the win. Hopkins suffered his first loss since January 2 to close the day, falling 4-1 to No. 3 Lou Deprez of Binghamton. The Palmer, Alaska native will see Iowa State's Samuel Colbray on Friday.
Barton, seeded 22
nd, moved on to Friday with an 8-7 win over Virginia Tech's Connor Brady, his second win over the Hokie 157-pounder this season. The senior opened the day with a 12-4 major decision loss to No. 11 Jacori Teemer from Arizona State. Barton will face Iowa's Kaleb Young next.
After opening the tournament against No. 11 Jay Aiello of Virginia, falling in a 10-2 major decision, Kober advanced with a 12-7 win over Stanford's Nick Stemmet, scoring six third period points in the victory. Kober will square off with Northwestern's Lucas Davison in the next round.

Zurich Storm was edged 3-0 by No. 4 Drew Hildebrandt from Central Michigan to lead off competition for the Camels at 125 pounds. Qualifying for his first NCAA Championships, Storm was eliminated in the consolation bracket by No. 20 Jake Ferri from Kent State in a 13-5 major decision.
At heavyweight, CU's
Taye Ghadiali, seeded No. 33, drew Gable Steveson from Minnesota in round one, with the top seed pinning the redshirt freshman (1:27). Ghadiali then fell to Illinois Luke Luffman, seeded 16
th, 7-2 in the consolation round.
