LAKE WORTH, FLA. –
Pontus Nyholm claimed individual honors and Campbell finished fourth on the team leader board after Tuesday's final round of the Southern Invitational at the Falls Club.
A senior from Gavle, Sweden, Nyholm shot a collegiate-low, 8-under-par 64 Monday to finish the event at 9-under 207 (73-70-64), one stroke ahead of runner-up Peter Gasperini of VCU (71-69-68—208).
Nyholm made nine birdies Monday – and led the event with 17 – to record his second collegiate victory. The only blemish on his scorecard was a bogey on the par-three 16th, but Nyholm birdied the par-four 17th and made par on the final hole to secure individual honors.
Rated No. 73 in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), Nyholm played the par-five holes 8-under over three rounds, was one-over on the par-fours and 2-under on the par-3 layouts.
"I spent the majority of the day with Pontus and his group," said Campbell head coach
John Crooks. "I saw some great golf by a great player. We are so proud of Pontus' most recent win."
