Camels finish 11th at Schenkel Invitational

Nyholm ties for 15th

STATESBORO, GA. – Pontus Nyholm tied for 15th individually and Campbell finished 11th on the team leader board after Sunday's final round of the 41st-annual Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club.
 
No.-21 NC State won the 13-team event at 25-under par 839 (272-279-288), 27 shots ahead of host Georgia Southern (275-290-301—866).  Campbell (288-299-304—891) finished ahead of Cincinnati (905) and Troy (908).
 
Benjamin Shipp of NC State won individual honors at 16-under 200 (66-66-68) on the par-72, 6962-yard Forest Heights layout.  NC State's Maximilian Steinlechner (67-71-74—211) and Christopher Gotterup of Rutgers (71-69-71—211) tied for second.
 
Nyholm (70-73-75—218) birdied the par-five 18th hole to finish at 2-over par for the 54-hole event.  Red-shirt freshman Romain Lanteri (71-74-78—223) tied for 35th, senior Josh Hetherington tied for 46th (73-78-74—225), junior Henrik Lilja (74-74-78—226) tied for 50th and freshman Alejandro Cogollo tied for 74th (80-79-77—236).
 
Named for the late Hall of Fame announcer and Georgia Southern alum Chris Schenkel, the event has played host to future professionals who have gone on to win 15 major championships, most recently Justin Thomas of Alabama, the 2013 medalist, who went on to win the 2017 PGA Championship.  Among the other golfing luminaries to play in the event are two-time Master champion Bubba Watson (Georgia) and two-time U.S. Open champions Andy North (Florida) and Curtis Strange (Wake Forest).
 
Campbell continues is spring schedule next weekend (Mar. 27-29) with the Tar Heel Invitational at UNC Finley Golf Course.
