Nyholm runner-up; Lilja T6th individually

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Pontus Nyholm finished second on the individual leader board and Campbell was runner-up in the team standings after Monday's final round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate at UNC Finley Golf Course.

Led by individual medalist Peter Fountain (65-70-66—201), host and 17th-ranked North Carolina (276-285-275—865) claimed team honors on its home course.  Campbell posted the second lowest round Monday to finish at 10-under 854 (286-289-279), three shots ahead of Michigan State (288-285-284—857).  No. 30 Arkansas State was fourth (869) and James Madison fifth (871) in the 14-team event.

A senior from Gavle, Sweden, Nyholm shot 70-69-66 to finish 11-under (205) for the event and claim his 18th career top-10 effort.  He made as many eagles (2) Monday as bogeys and added four birdies.  Nyholm made the turn at 5-under and after six-straight pars, bogeyed the par-four 16th.  However, he responded with his second eagle on the par-five 17th to finish at 205, two strokes better than he shot earlier this month to win the Southern Invitational at The Falls Club in Palm Beach.

On the Tom Fazio redesign, Nyholm played the par-5 holes at 9-under – best in the field – was third in par-4 scoring (-2) and played the par-3 holes even.  He finished with 14 birdies and his two eagles tied for the most in the event.

Campbell junior Henrik Lilja produced his first career top-10 individual finish (T6) at 5-under 211 (71-70-70). Lilja made 15 birdies over three days to tie for the lead in the 87-golfer field.  His final round Monday included four birdies with the only blemish on his scorecard coming with a double bogey on the par-four 16th.  Lilja was even on the par-3 layouts, 2-over on the par-fours and played the par-five holes 7-under.

Red-shirt freshman Romain Lanteri turned in a career-best T20 finish (74-73-71—218) after a final round that included three birdies.  He made 38 pars over 54 holes and was 1-under on the par-3 holes.  Senior Josh Hetherington (71-77-74—222) and freshman Alejandro Cogollo (79-73-70—222) tied for 36th and sophomore Claude Churchward tied for 73rd (79-79-72—230). Hetherington and Churchward both made 36 pars, while Cogollo finished with 12 birdies, including one on each of his final three holes Monday.

Monday's team result marked Campbell's third top-5 finish in its first four events this spring.  Campbell will play two events next week, Apr. 5-6 in the Golfweek Challenge at True Blue in Pawley's Island, S.C., and Apr. 9-10 at the Stitch Intercollegiate in Cary, N.C., to continue preparations for the Big South Championship (Apr. 18-21).
