PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. –
Pontus Nyholm shared medalist honors and Campbell finished second in the team standings after Tuesday's final round of the Golfweek Spring Invitational at True Blue.
Nyholm, who won the True Blue Amateur last September, extended his string to five-straight rounds in the 60s Tuesday and finished 13-under par (69-66-68—203) along with Carter Morgan of Old Dominion (70-68-65—203). Nyholm won for the third time in his collegiate career and for the second occasion in the 2020-21 season after his triumph last month at the Southern Invitational.
North Dakota State (279-277-286—842) won the 10-team event at 22-under par, followed by Campbell (284-280-284—848) and ODU (286-281-283—850) on the par-72, 6926-yard Mike Strantz design.
Nyholm, who made only one bogey over his final 43 holes, led the field in par-4 scoring (-6), while playing the par 3 holes even and the par fives 7-under. He made 14 birdies and a pair of eagles. Only Morgan's incredible finish – an eagle and three birdies over the final four holes – prevented Nyholm from earning the victory outright.
Campbell junior
Edwin Blomander tied for 14th at 2-under (69-73-72—214) - his best finish for the Camels since transferring to the program last fall. Fellow junior
Henrik Lilja tied for 16th (73-68-74—215) for his second-straight top-20 finish. Senior
Josh Hetherington made three birdies Tuesday in his 2-under-par round and tied for 20th (73-73-70—216).
Romain Lanteri tied for 44th (74-78-74—226). Competing as individuals, Campbell's
Alejandro Cogollo (74-79-76—229) and
Claude Churchward (79-75-77—231) finishes 50th and 52nd, respectively.
As a team, Campbell played the par-5 holes at 20-under and made 57 birdies, second only to North Dakota State, which was 28-under on the par fives and had 58 birdies.
After an eagle on the par-5 ninth, Nyholm made the turn at 3-under and was 4-under on the day after a birdie on the par four 13th. The only blemish on his scorecard since Monday morning was a bogey on the par-five 15th, but he drew level with Morgan two holes later with a birdie on the 426-yard, par-four 17th. Nyholm's 54-hole score is tied for eighth-lowest in CU golf history.
Blomander completed the 54-hole event 1-under on the par-3 holes, 5-under on the par fives, while making 10 birdies and 36 pars. Lilja was third in par-4 scoring (-3) and made 12 birdies. Hetherington played the par fives at 7-under and had 12 birdies over three days.
Campbell continues its busy two-week stretch this weekend (Apr. 9-10) with the Stitch Intercollegiate at MacGregor Downs CC in Cary, N.C. The Big South Conference Championship is set for Apr. 18-21 at The Patriot at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C.

The Course – True Blue GC (Par 72, 6926 yards): True Blue Golf Club, Mike Strantz's fourth signature golf course, opened in February 1998. Strantz also designed the award-winning Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, which opened in 1994, on land adjacent to True Blue Golf Club. For his efforts at True Blue Golf Club and Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, Strantz was named "Architect of the Year" by Golf World in 1998. Strantz crafted True Blue Golf Club to echo many of the characteristics of Pine Valley and Pinehurst No. 2, with an emphasis on maintaining a natural feel to the course. The par-72 course can stretch to 7,126 and features six sets of tee boxes. Emphasizing the natural beauty of the area and surprising elevation changes, True Blue Golf Club incorporates native grasses and vegetation to maintain much of the character of the property.
