HIGH POINT, N.C. - Athanas Kioko shattered both the meet and facility record in the men's 10,000 meters as Campbell track & field rounded out day one of the Big South Championships, Monday evening at Vert Stadium.
ON THE TRACK
Kioko finished first overall in the men's 10,000 meters in a meet and facility record time of 29:20.30. Additionally, his time ranks as the 10th best in Big South history. Godwin Kimutai also ran the 10,000m, claiming seventh in 31:58.92.
Lesego Mpshe claimed fourth in the women's 10,000 meters with a time of 36:58.71 while Lize Botha earned a personal best time of 37:29.01 in sixth.
IN THE FIELD
Caitlyn Vester took second overall in the women's hammer behind a toss of 52.95m (173' 8") while both Samantha Ennis (46.81m) and Jenna Dankert (46.50m) earned personal bests.
On the men's side, D.J. McClain took fourth in the hammer behind a 54.88m throw (180' 1") while Andrew Ward claimed seventh (53.25m).
Overall, the Campbell women lead the standings with 18Â points while the men are in second with 19 points behind leading Charleston Southern's 20.
Campbell returns to action for day two of the Big South Championships beginning at noon.
