Camels head to NCAA Wrestling Championships

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell's six national qualifiers begin competition in the 2022 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on Thursday, March 17, in Detroit, Mich.

This is the fourth straight season that Campbell will sent at least six qualifiers to the NCAA Championships.

The three-day championships will be held at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit

ESPNU will televise the early sessions over three straight days, beginning with three-and-a-half hours of first-round action on Thursday, March 17, at noon ET. The Quarterfinal (Friday) and Medal Round (Saturday) will also air on ESPNU. The three nights of primetime sessions on ESPN – including the Second Round (Thurs.) and Semifinals (Fri.) – will culminate Saturday, March 19, at 7 p.m. with the Championship matches in each weight class.

The 'MATCAST' option will be available through the Medal Round via ESPN3 and the ESPN App.

The No. 7 seed at 149 pounds, Josh Heil, 11-2 on the season, is heading to his fifth NCAA Championships, matching up with Missouri's Josh Edmond, who is 17-9 in 2021-22. A five time SoCon finalist and three time champion, Heil took runner-up honors at 149 pounds at the conference tournament.

Korbin Meink is seeded No. 28 at 125 pounds, going 14-6 on the year, and taking a runner-up finish at the 2022 SoCon Championships, won by the Camels for the fourth straight season. The senior, making his third NCAA Championships appearance, will matchup with No. 5 Killian Cardinale (14-1) of West Virginia.

Domenic Zaccone, who picked up an at-large selection to his first NCAA Championships, made the 133 pound field as the No. 33 seed, matching up with No. 32 Dominic LaJoie (17-13) of Cornell, with the winner taking on No. 1 Roman Bravo-Young (17-0) of Penn State. Zaccone is 13-10 overall, taking third at the 2022 SoCon Championships.

Making his first NCAA Championships appearance, 2022 SoCon champion Shannon Hanna is seeded No. 22 at 141 pounds. The junior is 17-5 on the season, and will face No. 11 Matt Kazimir (22-4) of Columbia in the first round on Wednesday.

After claiming his second straight SoCon title, Caleb Hopkins is seeded No. 24 at 184 pounds, paired with No. 9 Zach Braunagel (15-7) of Illinois. Hopkins is 17-4 this season, making the NCAA Championships field for the second time.

At heavyweight, Taye Ghadiali has been seeded No. 15 at heavyweight, matching up with No. 18 Lewis Fernandes (18-7) of Cornell in Wednesday's first round. A two-time NCAA qualifier, Ghadiali has fashioned a 19-2 record on the season, taking the SoCon championship in Boone, N.C.
