Lilja climbs leader board at Palm Beach Regional

Big South golfer of the year makes 6 birdies Tuesday

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA. – After shooting an even-par 72 Tuesday, Henrik Lilja climbed 23 spots on the leader board in the NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional at PGA National Champion Course.
 
On a day in which he made six birdies, Lilja moved into a tie for 43rd (81-72—153) at 9-over par in the 75-golfer field.  He opened and closed the day with birdies on the par-72, 7048-yard Fazio design/Nicklaus update that hosts the PGA TOUR Honda Classic.
 
Through 36 holes, the 2022 Big South Conference golfer of the year has made 18 pars and seven birdies, while playing the par-5 holes even and the par-4 layouts 2-over.
 
Kieron van Wyk of the College of Charleston is the individual leader at 6-under 138 (69-69), one stroke in front of Sam Nicholson from South Florida (68-71—139).
 
Third-ranked Vanderbilt (285-282—567) is 9-under as a team and takes a 9-shot advantage over No. 22 Florida State (297-279—576) into Wednesday's final round.  No. 10 Florida (294-284—578) is third, followed by No. 40 South Florida (290-292—582) and the College of Charleston (294-292—586) in the 14-school field.
 
The top five teams and top individual not on those qualifying teams from each of the six regionals will advance to the NCAA Championship, May 27-June 1 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
 
Lilja will be paired with players from Charleston Southern and Loyola Maryland for Wednesday's final round and start from the first tee at 9:20 a.m.  Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
