PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA. – After shooting a final round 78 Wednesday,
Henrik Lilja of Campbell University finished in a tie for 54th place in the NCAA Palm Beach Gardens Regional at PGA National Champion Course.
The Big South Conference golfer of the year, Lilja completed the event at 15-over par (81-72-78—231) on the PGA National Champion Course, which hosts the PGA TOUR Honda Classic. He made 11 birdies, including two over his final three holes Wednesday and 25 pars on the 7048-yard, par 72 Fazio design/Nicklaus update.
Third-ranked Vanderbilt (285-282-277—844) finished 20-under as a team and claimed a 12-stroke edge over No. 22 Florida State (297-279-280—856). No. 10 Florida (294-284-284—862) finished third, while No. 40 South Florida (290-292-294—876) and the College of Charleston (294-292-292—878) also qualified for the NCAA finals out of the 14-school field.
Brett Roberts of Florida State (74-68-67—209) earned individual medalist honors by two strokes over Fred Biondi of Florida (72-69-70—211) and Vanderbilt's Reid Davenport (72-72-67—211).
As the low individual not from a qualifying team, Zack Byers of Gardner-Webb (72-70-71—213), who tied for sixth overall, also earned a spot in the NCAA Championship, which will be held May 27-June 1 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
